As Elks, we should always remember to keep Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity a part of those resolutions. Whether we resolve to donate more time to the Lodge, bake for Friday dinners, or increase our support of ENF, it definitely will be a resolution we should keep. According to Wikipedia, of the top 15 popular goals that people set for the New Year, 10 of those can be associated with being an Elk. A person can reduce stress, laugh more often, enjoy life, read a good book, be more sociable, make new friends, spend quality time with family, volunteer, and be more involved in the community just by being an Elk. Charity of thought, word, and deed can certainly improve your life as well as those of others. Losing weight and quitting smoking are great goals to set and it would certainly be great to have a friend support you along the way to reaching your goal. You can find friends at the Lodge who may want to accomplish the same thing so why not start a Lodge support group. One member who loves to read is starting a monthly book club and Jurassic Park is the book to read for January. Check the newsletter for more details about this new club. The Lodge is always looking for new ideas for events or fundraisers. If you have an interest or hobby you would like to share with fellow members, please let one of the Officers know. The Lodge is here to share and support your interests and well as those of the community. Let s continue to make our Lodge the Little Lodge that does Big Things. ER Gayle Klein gklein@stny.rr.com cell: Look throughout this newsletter for a membership number. It will look like this **999**. If it is your number, just come to the lodge bar and claim your Friday Night Dinner For One prize certificate. The winner must come in person and show his or her membership card to the bartender. Your prize must be claimed before the month has ended. That s all there is too it! You can then use it on any Friday Night.

3 3 Let s all resolve to boost Lodge membership 3 Message from the Grand Exalted Ruler, JOHN D. AMEN It is the start of a new calendar year, and now is the time to make a personal resolution regarding your Lodge Membership situation. Resolve to call upon all Members to help improve Lodge membership numbers because membership is our number one issue. Resolve to work these final months of the Lodge year for a plus membership year in your Lodge. Resolve to act now! Lodge Secretaries and Exalted Rulers: Do not go it alone ask for help from your key Members. Enlist the help of your Past Exalted Rulers Association. Additionally, you should engage the Proposers of delinquent Members to call on their initiates. All local delinquent Members should receive a personal visit from a key Lodge Member. This will enable Lodge officials to determine if the delinquent Member is sick or in distress and should be the subject of a review by the Lodge Standing Relief Committee. The pride of distressed Members will often prevent them from talking about their situation on the phone. You know the Grand Lodge and State Association dues and per capitas have already been paid by the Lodge, and if you allow the Member to be dropped from the rolls then you will have gained nothing this year. Special consideration should be given to delinquent Members who have attained Life Member status. These Members have paid at least 30 years of dues and may be in a situation where family members are making financial decisions for the Member. It is a shame to coldly drop these long-standing Members who may well be incapable of making their own financial decisions. Again, face-to-face visits with a delinquent Member is imperative. Form a committee to call upon Members who have been dropped from the rolls the past five years, and remind them of the good works your Lodge does in your community. Let s all pull together to get the Plus 1 status for the Lodge and for the Order. That s all for now. See you on the road... **To the Members of Johnson City Elks Lodge #2821** At the December 16th lodge meeting, the trustees put forth a proposal to pursue the purchase of 4212 Watson Blvd, Johnson City, NY. This is the building that we currently occupy as a lodge. The proposal that was read at the meeting has been mailed to all members in good standing. At this time, we are asking for the lodge membership to show their support of the purchase of the building by voting for the proposal. This will allow the trustees to continue working with the landlord towards a mutually agreeable sales contract. The vote on the proposal will occur at the Tuesday, January 6th meeting at 7 PM. In order to cast your vote, you will be asked to show your membership card. Please arrive at the lodge no later than 6:45 so that the meeting can start promptly at 7 PM. If you have any questions regarding the proposal or other information contained in the letter, please contact ER Gayle Klein or one of the trustees or send an to jcelks@gmail.com. Respectfully, ER Gayle Klein Lodge Trustees: Steve Flint Scott Dow Kimberly Reger Ken Jennison Mike Kelley Johnson City held its annual Hoop Shoot on December 13 th. Special thanks go out to everyone who made it a success! Congratulation to the winners! 8 & 9, Boy: 8 & 9, Girl: Paul Johnson Riley Smith Samuel Micalizzi 10 & 11, Boy: 11 & 12, Girl: Tommy Eccleston Ryan Johnson Landon Smith Taylor Johnson 12 & 13, Boy: Julian Wamjuma A holiday message from our Major Projects committee Our Lodge thanks all of you for your generous support throughout the year and looks forward to a happy, fun and prosperous New Year for all! Please remember those less fortunate as does the NYSEA Major Projects program. A few reflective quotes of the season... The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. -Burton Hillis Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home! -Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers

4 4 4 Santa and his Elves! Santa and his elves were busy last month! Parties were held at the lodge for the residents of HCA, and Santa made a special delivery for the children of Mom's House. They also went to the Oxford Vets' Home for the annual Christmas party and caroling. Thank you Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all the elves that made this holiday season special for so many people.

5 5 5 Did you know? Did You Know 2014 was an amazing year for our Lodge? We gained so many new members who have "jumped in feet first". Here is the 2014 in Review: We had our first 5K Run which supported the USO and HCA! We were able to raise enough funds with our Halloween Pet Parade to purchase two K9 Vests for Binghamton and the City of Cortland. We held our annual Christmas Parties which benefitted 35 families from Mom's House and three houses from the HCA. There were numerous fund raising events which made these events possible. Our Exalted Ruler Gayle Klein, her sons, and Jacki Lamont helped with the JC Holiday Parade Floats. Who can forget the annual Classic Car and Motorcycle event to benefit the USO? Our amazing teams and their delicious Chicken BBQ's throughout spring and summer. Then the Friday night cooks and their teams, the bartenders, and card players. All of you and our volunteers make this the most amazing "Little Lodge that does Big Things." Please know your efforts do not go unnoticed. We have gotten the reputation in our community of "making things happen". Happy and Blessed New Year to all my Brothers and Sisters! ~Submitted by Alicia Beck, Lodge Chaplain Did you know our members enjoy knowing what's happening with YOU? Please wbeck@stny.rr.com with YOUR news. October s Elk of the Month is Dino Christopher for all his work with Hoop Shoot, helping with parade float, tending bar, and so many other things. Thank you Dino for all you do and for being a great Elk! You make us proud to be Johnson City Elks. E.N.F. ---Our Newest Members Frank Berdine Nancy Dickerson David Elliott Cee Garcia Kimberly Gates Jackie Lamont Rick Mastrocova Joshua Nawrocki Gayle Pado Scott Smith James Toal Melissa Toal Katharine Wright. Your donations MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Thank You! Russell Ryan, E.N.F. Chairman, P.E.R. JC Elks Book Club That's right! We're starting a book club. Meetings will be held the last Friday of the month at to discuss that month's selection and to vote on the next book. January's theme is "Book-to-Movie," and with the new Jurassic Park movie set to open soon, we're going back to the original with Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Any questions, contact Leona at lstevens5@stny.rr.com. A Few Words From Your Lodge Past Exalted Rulers Association Did you remember that our principles are Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity? The dictionary tells us the following -- Charity: an activity or gift that benefits the public at large Justice: the quality of being just or fair Brotherly Love: a kindly and lenient attitude toward people Fidelity: honest or lasting support, or loyalty If we all remember these words, just think of how big a difference we can make! Sincerely and Fraternally, Your J. C. PER Association Lodge hours Monday thru Thursday open at 5.30pm; Friday open at 4.30pm; Saturday and Sunday contingent upon events
