1 4 October 2018 Issue 112 POP UP NEWS Mapleton, Queensland New this Week Brad Butcher Brad Butcher is coming to Funds for Farmers When you hear people talk about Brad Butcher as an Australian Songwriter, or more importantly as a person, the same few words are thrown around Honest, Genuine, Hardworking and Brad's hard work is now receiving the accolades he so richly deserves being awarded the NEW TALENT OF THE YEAR at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards of Photo Australia, Caption held in Tamworth NSW, and the 2018 Queensland Music Award - Country Song of the Year was a breakout year for Butcher who released his third album in August to wide spread praise from the Australian music industry. The album peaked at #4 on the itunes Country Albums Chart and features the award winning single Well Dressed Man, title track From The Bottom Of A Well and HIT SINGLE - Crawl, Beg & Cry. Things to do while listening to the international music stars. Featuring this week are the numerous food stalls come for lunch and stay on for an evening meal. Calamari Canteen offers a number of different ways to enjoy calamari. The Lions deluxe burger and sausage sizzle offers hearty food for all ages. The Woodfire Pizza will smell and taste delicious. On the bar will be cheese and snack platters featuring Kenilworth cheeses and tasty pestos from the Mapleton Community Library. And to top it all off fairy floss and sno cones for all with a young at heart. Your payment of $25/$30 on entry goes directly to farmers in drought declared areas via our local Lions Club. Not one penny into administration.

2 Mapleton Men's Shed at 52 Delicia Rd, Mapleton has been chosen to participate in the SCRC Open House scheme on Saturday 20th October and will be open to all interested persons from 10am to 4pm on that day. We are a Heritage listed site and all the recent improvements have been done in accordance with our Heritage architects design. We believe our buildings were constructed shortly after World War 2 and are typical of Forestry Department buildings of that time. In the barracks building we also have a small museum which reflects some of the forestry activities undertaken in this area in earlier times. John Brady, President. Continuing News Do you sometimes feel anxious or stressed, does your life seem to be a little out of your control at times? Do you have a sense of well-being all the time? A new study has found that Mind-Body Interventions (or in MBI s) can actually reverse the reactions in our DNA that can cause health problems, stress and even depression. The Coventry University (UK) completed a study on MBI s with yoga, meditation and tai chi and discovered that when we are stressed, our fight or flight response is triggered, causing inflammation in our cells. We need the fight or flight response to react to stressful situations, but if it is continuously activated, we can become unwell. The studies have shown that in people who regularly practice yoga, meditation or tai chi, inflammation in the cells is reduced, which improves our overall health and wellbeing. So think about whether you might be able to incorporate yoga and meditation or even tai chi into your exercise program to reduce stress, anxiety and help you to maintain a sense of calm and wellness. If you would like to incorporate some meditation with a slow stretching yoga class for all levels, join me at the Mapleton Gym at 10am on Thursdays (beneath the Mapleton Bowls Club - 5 Post Office Road, Mapleton) $15 per class or $60 for 5 classes (prepaid).
