1 SCHOOL FUNDRAISING PACK Thank you Donations and fundraising help ensure we can continue to offer the basic, essential services that many of us take for granted, such as a hearty meal, a hot shower, a locker to store precious few belongings, and access to professional and health services. Why fundraise There are currently over 6,000 people experiencing homelessness in South Australia. We think that s too many people facing poverty and disadvantage. Walk a Mile in My Boots is held annually during National Homelessness Week (August). Each year we call on South Australians to show their support for people facing homelessness by joining us and experiencing what it is like on a cold, winter's morning to walk one mile to find something to eat, a hot cup of tea or coffee, and a friendly face. In 2018 we want to see over 6,000 people walking a mile in the boots of the more than 6,000 people who are homeless each year in South Australia. Because no person who is homeless should feel like they re walking alone. By fundraising, your school can make your steps count and help create a better future for people experiencing homelessness in South Australia.

3 SCHOOL FUNDRAISING PRIZES HIGHEST FUNDRAISING SCHOOL PRIZE Network Ten A tour of Network Ten s Adelaide Studios on Hutt Street. Students will be given the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes, meet our TEN Eyewitness News presenting team and watch the filming of a news bulletin. Commemorative Painted Rossi Boots A pair of Rossi Boots painted in a unique design by artist Riina, friend of Hutt St Centre, who visits our weekly art groups. MOST UNIQUE FUNDRAISING IDEA PRIZE Hahndorf Farm Barn Enjoy a school tour for up to 30 students to Hahndorf Farm Barn. The students always enjoy the interaction with the baby animals and the "hands on" approach to learning about life on the farm. T&C s **Network 10 Tour is valid for a maximum of 30 students. 4 Fundraising Ideas Themed Casual days Encourage students to think about some of the challenges for people facing homelessness. Consider a beanie casual day to help students understand the value of a simple clothing item during the cold winter months. Ask students to bring a gold coin donation to participate. Donation tins We can supply your school with Hutt St Centre branded donation tins to place at your front office, in your classroom, or to be used at a fundraising event. Raffle Raffles are an easy way to raise funds. Teachers can suggest parents contribute raffle prizes, or even students. Sausage sizzle A popular fundraising option. To promote healthy eating in your school, why not replace white bread with wholemeal, and offer salad as a side. Breakfast fundraiser Similar to a sausage sizzle, a bacon and egg sandwich or even pancakes before school is a great idea for student participation. It involves planning, preparation and most importantly encourages teamwork. This one is also a winner with students and parents! Themed lunch Students can choose a theme for lunch and each bring in a plate of food to share. A gold coin donation to participate. Morning Tea Host a morning tea in your staffroom or with your students. Challenge Board Games day Get students to bring their favourite board game to school (games that can be played in teams are best). Encourage students to bring a donation on the day to play. Arts and crafts stall Great idea for students to show off their creative streak. Classes can work together or at home with their families to make items to sell at a school stall. Paintings, knitted scarves, greeting cards, candles, and potted plants are some ideas to get you started.

5 School bake sale Great for those classes whose children (or even parents) are budding chefs! Recipe book This fundraiser is a great way to encourage teamwork amongst your students. Suggest each student include their favourite recipe, a family recipe, or perhaps a recipe from another culture. Include an accompanying story for each recipe or even a drawing or photo taken by the student. Once your students have put the book together, it s ready to sell! Entertainment Music concert An opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents with family and friends. Charge a fee on entry. Bingo Hold a bingo night at school and invite friends and family to attend. Charge a participation fee and organise raffle prizes to sell on the night. Quiz night Host a quiz night at school. Parents and friends group, students and teachers can all get on board to organise the event. Organise raffle prizes and charge a fee per table of 10 who participate. Movie night Organise a series of movies to be held after school. Students can participate by making a donation. Educate Go without Suggest your students give up an electrical item such as their ipad or mobile phone. For each day they go without, encourage their friends and family to sponsor your class or individual. This is a great way for kids to learn what it s like to live without valuable possessions just like someone without a safe a secure home would. School sleep out Educate students on what it would be like to sleep out for a night, without a warm bed and material objects. Students can work on making their own houses for the night by using cardboard boxes and other objects in their classroom, or school gymnasium.

6 Other ideas Chocolate sales Raise money through a Cadbury chocolate box fundraiser. Guessing competition Fill a jar with lollies or chocolate. Charge $1 for one guess. The person who guesses correctly or closest to, wins the contents of the jar. Packed lunch day Instead of staff or students buying their lunch, encourage the money to be donated, and bring a packed lunch instead. How your school can promote your fundraising efforts: Posters/Flyers Put posters up around the office for parents, teachers and students to see what you are doing and how they can support you Work Newsletter/school newsletter For primary and secondary schools, send a newsletter to parents to let them know about the event - and invite them along.
