On December 13 th, we re having a College Planning explosion, with Mick Endersbe from College Planning University, here to bring a two hour funding strategy meeting to our chapter meeting. He ll start after the 12:30 lunch I m sure you won t want to miss it! He ll be working with us on ideas and presentations we can share with our clients to build value in our relationships. And later that evening, we are hosting a planning session open to the public that will be held at 7 p.m. at South Eugene High School, 19 th and Patterson. Please invite one and all to this informative, and tuned-for-thepublic presentation. Mick does these shows dozens of times a year and I m sure you ll be pleased and inspired by both his presentations. We have been distributing brochures about this meeting to all the high schools in the area, at their Senior or Financial Aid nights, and encouraging folks to come for more information on this critical planning issue. Invite your clients and friends, and plan to attend yourself, because Mick likes nothing better than to encourage parents to work with a financial planner in all they do! See you there!...continued on Page 3
3 3 I met with the 2006 Symposium steering committee last week, and we worked out some ideas for the upcoming Spring Planning Symposium, next May 23, 2006 Save the Date! We re planning to bring Bob Veres, of Inside Information, a nationally know columnist and advocate for the financial planning community. Through the efforts of these presidents of the other organizations, John Thomas from the Estate Planning Council, Ian Richardson of the Tax Association, Bob Wright with the SFSP, we re mulling and wooing several speakers of national reknown from insurance ethics, tax planning, senior estate planning, and qualified plan distribution. We hope to have them work together to explore the Common Threads in the Planning Community. You ll be hearing more about the program as plans develop, and early next month, you ll be receiving a postcard to encourage you to plan ahead for that best-ever Spring Planning Symposium! Thanks for a great ride! It s been a pleasure to be a leader of this great Gold Level chapter! Michael Syman-Degler, CLU, CFP President, Mid-Oregon Chapter
4 College Planning University, LLC The Value of A College Education and The Reality of Paying For it Mick Endersbe*, MS, CHFC If your college funding plan has included a 50% increase in tuition and a dramatic drop in the stock market, you are not alone. New financial products and marginal increases in student aid alone won t make the dream for your children s college education a reality. It will take a focused effort and some non-traditional thinking to get back on track. But it can be done! While it is never too late to plan for college, what you ll learn in this fast-paced seminar will make your journey much more enjoyable and much less expensive. Mick will introduce: The Truth About Financial Aid Who gets free money The Three Critical Issues - A mechanism for college investment decision making The Four Partners - Designing your own college plan The Net Cost of College - Learn what college will really cost And many of his other time-tested strategies He ll also discuss: Saving for College the Tax-efficient Way Understanding your options Roth IRAs 529 Plans Coverdell Education Savings Accounts Cash Value life Insurance Leveraging the Family Business Mick Endersbe, MS, ChFC is the President of College Planning University, LLC based in Lakeville, MN. Over the past 18 years he has help thousands of families sort through two of their most important and expensive financial planning decisions choosing and paying for a college. Mick has spoken on the topics of college funding, investments and retirement in over 30 states and has delivered over 300 seminar presentations to corporations and non-profit organizations. His strategies for balancing college and retirement funding have been featured in local, regional and national radio, television and print media. Sponsored by Mid-Oregon Chapter FPA Find a Planner:
