Dr. Dean reflected on his 55 years of membership to our Club and thanked all who offered to drive him to the meeting. Currently, his health impedes his ability to be an active member and he wishes the best for the Club. A final reminder for the Golf Outing slated for this Thursday, August 12th at the Highland Park Country Club. Registration and lunch begin at 11 am with a 1 pm tee time. Visiting Rotarian Jim Grumly discussed a new International Rotary service project for educating small farmers on crop production in developing countries. Similar programs currently exist and are very successful. President Tenner stated that he will share information with the International Committee to determine whether our Club will provide a $1,000 contribution to the initiative. FIFTY/FIFTY First Place: Mari Barnes Second Place: Gerry Brin Third Place: Jack Soderlund FINES & FROLICS Cliff Bregstone was our Fines & Frolics master. Guess he wasn't so bad since he had a repeat performance. He collected the customary $3 fee and entertained the group with a "true story" of a rabbi in Las Vegas. PROGRAM THIS WEEK This was a Club Assembly. Board of Directors Activities The Board decided to sponsor a HP Strings concert at $1,000 and make the concert a felolwship event. The Board made a $100 donation to purchase a bike for children of military families. The initiative was started by a Rotary Club on the East coast. A donation was sent to the Night Ministry in memory of Frank Schwermin's son who recently passed away. Treasury Report Neil Dahlmann provided highlights of the Treasury Report. The Rotary Club's largest income comes from lunch revenue, followed by 50/50 and Fines &

4 Page 4 of 5 Frolics. The Club makes contributions to the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus initiative through quarterly amounts charged to the Rotary members. The current budget is based on 65 members and currently the HP/Highwood Rotary Club has 66 active members. Revenue from the Golf Outing and other major fundraisers goes towards scholarships and charities. Therefore, a successful Golf Outing this year will result in greater contributions to scholarships and charities in President's report President Tenner led the discussion on whether to change our meeting from Monday to another day of the week to accomodate Rotarians who have a difficult time attending Monday meetings. Of the members in attendance, Mondays or Tuesdays worked best for a meeting. President Tenner stated that he will go back to the Board with the results. A lengthy discussion ensued regarding active members meeting attendance. Members are encouraged to make up meetings at other Clubs and provide feedback to our Club. No consensus was reached with regards to members who pay annual dues yet never attend meetings. The Club was asked questions with regards to the Club website and member directory. A majority of the members would like to have an updated Club directory printed and distributed rather than seek the information on the website. It was also decided that there will be a workshop on how to access our website after one of our meetings. Penny previously approached the President with the idea of setting up an auction website on our Club website that would operate similarily to E-Bay. Len asked our thoughts and no one was in favor of the idea.
