Jim Respeliers gave the invocation. We had singing of "No Place Like Nebraska" along with the usual "God Bless America" and several announcements. Byron Stigge introduced Dr. Tim Wei who talked about changes and improvements to the UNL and UNO Engineering programs and community outreach to help students and employers. The RISK bag was at $300 and Kay Farrell won a free lunch. Secretary Eric Dawson and Pat Mahoney did some clipping and fine handing out. Thank you to United Republic Bank/Katie Henry for sponsoring the RISK wheel for $100 this month. Half the funds go the Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation and half become spots on the wheel, giving RISK players more chances to win.

Last week Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt introduced us to new member Ashley Baker is from Florida. She attended the University of Florida and transferred to Creighton where she graduated with her B.S. in Elementary Education. Ashley is a stay-at-home mom to 3 busy kids and an active community volunteer addition for Meals on Wheels, serving as a Friends of the Omaha Zoo Board Member, volunteering for her kids school, her church, and a local food pantry and most recently with Suburban Rotary during Brush Up Nebraska. She is married to Dave. In her free time, Ashley enjoys gardening, biking, running and traveling, most recently to the Rotary International convention with me where she became inspired by the Rotarians we met and the global activities of Rotary and decided to join our club. Rotarians Invited The Nebraska Polio Survivors Association has invited Rotarians to attend their annual reunion on Sunday, October 6. The keynote/educational program will be presented by Ann Lee Hussey, chair of the Polio Survivors & Associates Rotarian Action Group and recognized by the White House as a "Champion of Change". The NPSA Annual Reunion gives polio survivors and friends a chance to gather in fellowship and learn more about Post-Polio Syndrome and other topics of concern to polio survivors. Rotarians attending will gain new insight on this disease and how it affects people. Reservations are required by September 30, The cost is $10 in advance.
