The minutes were approved as submitted. Treasurer s Report: Ellen reviewed the report. She reported that money from the clothing drive came in as well as two checks from Greg s Driving School. Membership is up. We have received some After- Prom Party donations. There was a net profit from raffle sales of $4,440. Raffle expenses were paid to the three Booster clubs. The numbers look good for a first-time fundraiser. Motion for approval of Treasure s report: 1 st :Diane Kahler, 2 nd : Karyn Polk. The motion was approved. President s Report: Patty Warns reported on behalf of Chris Hagan who arrived late to the meeting. Chris provided the following written report:

2 Craft Fair: We held a Winter Arts & Crafts Fair Wrap-Up Meeting on January 28. Following are the key takeaways: Plan to keep the craft fair on a Sunday again next year Discussed expanding into the hallways and forcing a walk-through pattern to increase traffic in halls and cafeteria and take advantage of the abundance of vendors interested in participating. There were 50 on our wait list this year. Discussed charging $1 per adult admission since we had so many people come through, and perhaps indicate that the fee benefits the Scholarship Fund. Talked about increasing food options sold by the PTSA and permitting vendors to place food orders in advance from a pre-determined limited menu. Talked about timed arrivals for vendor registration and other ideas meant to reduce traffic and improve efficiency, and satisfaction with the arrival and set up process. One idea discussed was registering participants from their cars rather than make them come into the building. Will look at additional ways to automate vendor booth reservation and registration activities. This year s changes helped a lot, but we need to look at if we can automate some of the follow up functions. Agreed we need a bigger student volunteer presence, and may need to figure out a way to get students to commit and follow through. What incentive do we need to offer? Need to add some adult volunteers to our group to replace some who have children who are graduating. Restaurant Raffle: Checks were cut and distributed to the three Booster clubs in the amounts discussed and agreed upon at our January PTSA meeting. The amounts were based on the number of restaurant raffle tickets sold. All three organizations were extremely appreciative, especially the Theatre and Athletic Boosters who each received $150 despite not selling 100 tickets. After-Prom Committee: I met with Renee Papavasiliou on Monday night to talk through the After-Prom Party processes. Renee and Denise Green, who is also a past chair, are insisting on staying involved with this year s party with every intention of training junior parents to chair the event next year. We have a few junior parents interested in working on this year s committee and chairing or co-chairing it next year. Most of the initial work that needs to be done involves updating forms and documents. I will handle this with Renee and will be in touch with Mrs. Laing, Mr. Last s assistant, this week to obtain the required senior class information to get things moving. There will be three committee meetings. The first will be in March. Its purpose will be to gage senior parent interest and involvement, to go over details of the event, and to find a core group of people to solicit restaurant and cash donations for prizes, etc. The second will be in April prior to spring break and will be for the purpose of providing an update and preparing packet materials to go home immediately after spring break. The third will be a few days prior to the After-Prom Party to go over final details. No meeting dates are set yet. Greg s Driving School Registration numbers for January and February were very good.

3 Premier Driving School has not booked any classes at Perry Hall, which should help us since only Greg s donates to the PTSA. I sent the owner a sample of the cell phone slip case we began distributing in January. Greg s loves what we are doing. The Avenue contacted us to thank us for the holiday candy we sent them. Invited us to do the summer concert series again this year. We will need to pull together a sign-up system for Fridays and Saturdays again from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They have asked for our help promoting a 5K race they are hosting in April for the America s VetDogs, an organization that helps train guide and service dogs for Veterans. The charity wants to encourage a school presence. Can we get a list of the various honor society advisors and the contact names for the track team or any other relevant group at the high school that might be interested? We could contact Coach Bev and Mr. Adelman. Kris Kazmierski is the liaison so once we get the information to Maggie, they will reach out to the coaches to hopefully drum up participation from their runners. Is this appropriate to promote on the morning announcements? We think it would be ok to do on announcements, but will check with Mr. Last. I told The Avenue, we d include a link in the Gator Gazette, and promote via our social media channels, but that other than passing along details to organizations at the high school that might be interested from an athletic or service perspective, I wasn t sure what else we could do. I promised to mention it at the meeting and get input from the board and the school. Any thoughts? Principal s Report: Mr. Last was in attendance. The Girl s Varsity Soccer team will be honored at the Maryland General Assembly State House in Annapolis on February 8 th. Internship programs are growing: Homeland Security, Bio-Med Science, and Computer Science. The 4 th year includes an internship. PHHS completed the testing cycle in a week and a half. There will be no more testing until April. May 6 th faculty meeting will be the end of year celebration. Last year the PTSA supplied pizza for the faculty. Would that be possible again? Shannon Strazzire (Social Committee, sstrazzire@bcps.org) will be the liaison. The committee said that we would be interested in helping, but that we would have to address this at the next meeting. Turf field should be ready soon. Principal retirement: Mr. Last will be retiring. The new principal will be experienced. The PTSA President, leadership team, community members, and the Area Superintendent will all be on the team to find a principal for the school year. Mr. Last does not think he can promote the 5K. The NHS Induction was this evening.

4 There will be a suicide assembly on Thursday, February 7 th. The presentation is called Personal Revolution. Hopefully, students will come away with the following: A great understanding of their amazing value. Resources they can use to battle their challenges. An understanding of what others around them may be going through. The fact that the season they may be in is temporary and they have an amazing future. Faculty Report: No faculty member was able to attend. Student Report: No report Old Business: None New Business: Ms. Tina Baron won the PTSA staff parking spot for January. The Avenue: We will do the summer concert series again this year. We will use Sign-Up Genius or a similar software to coordinate volunteers. America s Vet Dogs 5K: Maggie and Kris Kazmierski will reach out to the coaches. Chris will forward the information to Maggie. Chick-fil-A sent us information about pre-packaged meals which was shared with the group. Other: none Committee Reports: Hospitality: The teachers will be treated to ice cream on February 15 th because we had extra toppings. The PTSA Hospitality Committee has teamed up well with the staff Social Committee. Clothing Drive: Occurs the 2 nd Saturday of the month from 8:30-10:30 a.m. It was successful for the first time doing it completely on our own. The rental truck cost was reimbursed by Savers. We will need a bigger truck next time, which will cost $10.00 more. It may be more cost effective to do it on a Thursday instead of a Saturday. Reflections: There were four artists. The artwork was delivered to the state. Maggie will contact the person to find out the date for the judging and when she should expect to hear back from the state. Scholarship: Patty received two scholarship applications and essays. The deadline is April 1 st. The students membership needs to be verified through the January 25 th membership list. Communications: Amy has been posting on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. If we have anything to share contact Amy. Membership: We have reached the 400 mark. We are 100 short of our goal. The membership consists of 178 parents, 72 faculty members, 136 students, 9 other, and 5 unknown. The 2 nd batch of membership cards will be delivered this week. Heather is interested in finding new ways to encourage people to join. Others: Report cards come out Thursday. Golden Gators assemblers will meet at Stacey s house on Monday the 18 th.
