Summer Fundraising Guide

Help us save lives now I want to understand breast cancer better to find new ways to treat it. You can help me. This Summer, we re challenging you to reach out to your friends, family and communities to raise money to fund research that can save lives. Right now, more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before, but more are being diagnosed. This year, around 55,000 women in the UK will hear the words it s breast cancer and around 11,500 women will die from it. That s one woman dying every 45 minutes. Research holds the key to a future where we don t have to live in fear of breast cancer. This Summer, we re asking you to go above and beyond and make lifesaving research happen. It s easy to get involved you might already have lots of summery ideas to raise funds, or you can get inspired by looking through this guide and choosing your ideas based on what you think will work best for you. If you have any questions, need any advice or extra fundraising materials, please get in touch. Thank you for your support! We couldn t do it without you. Dr Clare Davies is studying breast cancer stem cells. These are the cells in the tumour that can help cancer spread and grow back after treatment. She hopes her research could eventually lead to new cancer treatments. Here is how your money can help our life-saving research continues: We believe that, if we all act now, by 2050 everyone who develops this devastating disease will live, and live well. Together, we can create that future. 25 could fund one hour of vital breast cancer research to help us achieve our 2050 goal, that everyone who develops breast cancer will live and live well. 250 could buy one antibody, an essential research tool for our scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in the lab. We are here to make your fundraising a success. For advice, tips and plenty of free fundraising materials please contact us at: or give us a call on: we would love to chat with you! 100 could fund 100 experiments to investigate the genetic changes in breast cancer cells, allowing scientists to find out more than ever about this devastating disease and ways to prevent and treat it. 1,000 could buy enough chemicals for 100 experiments to find proteins that could be targeted by new drugs that have less impact on breast cancer patients bodies.

Bake sales, quizzes and a pink disco Meet Linda. I first started raising funds for breast cancer back in 2005, for no particular reason other than I saw a sponsored walk marathon advertised and thought that would be fun to get a group of girls together, get fitter and raise some money for a good cause. Again I went to the doctors and was referred and after all the tests it was confirmed that I had breast cancer. I was 44 with a husband and two children and we were devastated to say the least. I had a mastectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and was prescribed the drug Arimidex. Breast cancer was not something any of us had really given much thought to and I am ashamed to say that I never ever checked myself then! In 2006 I found a lump, panicked and immediately had it checked. It was only a cyst, but that started me checking myself regularly and in the late summer of 2007 I found another lump, which felt different this time. I then continued to fundraise it gave me a focus. I ran in the London Marathon for Breast Cancer Now in 2016, and again in I trained in earnest, as well as organising multiple fundraising events, including a craft event, afternoon tea and two quiz nights. I find it easier to fundraise by organising events and quiz nights are very popular, always sold out! Everyone comes along and has a good fun night and we always raise in excess of 600 each time. I also hold afternoon teas and raffles, and we have pink discos yes everyone wears something pink! It might seem daunting to start your first fundraiser, but honestly, just give it a go. It s always loads of fun for everyone involved. You learn from each one how to make the next even bigger and better, and you re making money to keep more women, like me, alive too. Join Linda Have a summer fundraiser this year! Request your free fundraising pack at: breastcancernow.org/ request-your-pack or give us a call on: and the team can help suggest the ideal fundraiser for you.

Summer Fundraising Ideas With longer days and plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun, Summer is a fantastic time of year to fundraise. We ve shared our favourite ideas with you here in our guide! It s simple to organise your Summer fundraising event and we ve got plenty of ideas and stuff we can send you to make sure that your event is a success! Summer dress down day If wearing a suit on a crowded, hot train is not your idea of fun why not organise a dress down day at your workplace or school? Alternatively host a summer dress up day with tropical print shirts! Sports Day Can be geared to both adults and children! Head to a park or a back garden and charge an entry fee per team. Egg and spoon, three-legged relay, sack races, tug of war are all classic sports day competitions! Offer prizes to the winners and sell refreshments too.

Paying in your money Your time to shine There are four easy ways to send your money to us: 1. Pay directly to your fundraising page. The money will come straight to Breast Cancer Now and your total will immediately update. 2. Pay in your sponsorship money online at breastcancernow.org 3. Call our Supporter Engagement team on to make a credit or debit card payment. 4. Send cheques to Freepost RTSC-SJTC-RAKY Ibex House Minories London EC3N 1DY Please don t send us cash in the post! Please remember to send us any completed sponsorship forms so that we can claim Gift Aid. Gift Aid gives us more money to fund research into breast cancer. Spreading the word about your fundraising is a great way to raise awareness of breast cancer and get some exposure for your fundraising and it might encourage other people to get involved! Check out our tips for telling your story: Contact your local media Make a list of newspapers, radio and TV stations and websites that cover your local area and find out their contact details. Then start getting in touch and telling them about what you re doing. Don t forget to include your contact details so journalists can get in touch with you. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are great ways to let people know about your fundraising. Promote your Summer fundraisers by doing a post on Facebook or Instagram or tweet about them to reach out to more people. We can also help promote your fundraising through our Breast Cancer Now accounts Breast Cancer Give us a follow, a mention or a tweet and we can let our followers know what you re up to!

Research holds the key to a world where everyone who develops breast cancer lives. We believe that if we all act now, by 2050, we will live in that world. We ve got a once in a lifetime opportunity to stop women dying from breast cancer. Your time, your energy, your commitment you will make all the difference. Thank you for your support. Registered charity nos (England and Wales) 1200 (Isle of Man) and SC (Scotland).
