I had a blast, and it sure looked like everyone there thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks to everyone for pitching in and helping out wherever they could. Special thanks to the ground maintenance crew for having the site looking so great and to Mark for serving up some of the best burgers, dogs, and pastries on the planet! When you drop in to your favorite local hobby store please thank them for their generous donations also. Both Tammies and Hillsboro Hobbies were quite generous in their donations to help support our day. We had 46 pilots register to fly. I suspect there might have been some additional flyers that chose not to sign in. I d estimate that we had total attendance of upwards to 150. My neighbor arrived with her young nephews.the kids loved the balsa gliders and the run for the parachutes at noon. We had one former FAW member re-join and other non-member flyers requested applications. I was very happy that Remi Coussens arrived just in time for the noon ceremonies. Paul also stopped by. 2 sign. He couldn t stay long, but we were able to talk briefly. We have permission to fix the gate so long as we don t narrow the opening. We also talked about irrigation and he agreed in principle that we can work something out. Sorry Dave, but I just don t think there s any electricity available, unless we go with hydro and put in 36 irrigation pipe and an in-line turbine generator. Now that the grand opening is over it s time to look forward to the next event. At the July meeting Bob Duncan proposed an annual RC auction. He stressed that the idea is for an auction and not a swap meet. One of his past clubs was very successful with this idea. There would be an entry fee, plus the club earns a percentage of the sales. We will need a place to hold the auction, at least 4-6 volunteers to help, plus 2-3 auctioneers (someone who can talk fast). This proposal is still on the table. Please consider coming to the August meeting to discuss further. The club needs to vote on whether or not to hold this event, and when. If we want an auction this year then planning needs to start very soon. Keep your engines running! Scott E. 3 First of all a BIG THANK YOU to those who made this day possible and have supported our club. We were privileged to have the Coussens stop by. If you don t already know, the Coussens are the landowners who made our flying site possible by agreeing to host us on their property. For lunch Remi enjoyed the culinary delights of Chef Mark. Chef Mark is a FAW member who took time out of his busy schedule as the executive chef at Pumpkin Ridge to spend his only day off grilling up the tasty delights served up at the food stand. Hillsboro Hobby Shop donated the burgers, dogs, gliders for the kids, and gift certificates for the pilots. (Continued on page 4) 3

And finally thank you to all of the club members who spent their time searching out the Coussens, working over Washington County, hacking the brush, tending the burn piles, preparing the site, laying the geotex, grooming the grounds, and setting up for the big day! Everyone took a break from the flying to enjoy a few midday activities. One of the pilots from the glider club next door agreed to do a fly by along with Bob (Continued on page 5) 4

5 (Continued from page 4) Duncan in his RV-4. Bob generously donated a ride in his RV-4 as one of our numerous raffle opportunities as well as the glider club which donated a glider ride. The kids all lined up waiting for a chance to grab a para-jumper and had fun running out to retrieve one of their very own! (Continued on page 6) 5

6 (Continued from page 5) The crowd was also wowed by a fantastic copter demo! The noon time festivities were capped off by a ribbon cutting ceremony and a fun filled afternoon of open flying! The final event of the day was the drawing for the various raffle prizes including numerous gift certificates donated by Hillsboro Hobby Shop and Tammies Hobbies! 6

8 Meeting Minutes: Tues 7/19/2011 Call to order at 7:00pm by the President. President s Report - Scott E. welcomed the new members and visitors in attendance at the meeting. Signs have been made to remind everyone to close and lock the gate, don t drink the hand wash water and no dogs allowed. Scott also reminded everyone about following the flight pattern when fixed wing aircraft are in the air. Vice President s Report: Scott C. gave an update on the training program. The training is going well and there are currently three active trainees. Treasurer s Report: No report. Safety Officer s Report: Don t drink the hand wash water. The tail traps are in, please use them. Need to paint a delineation mark on the edge of the runway. Old Business: 1. Tax exempt filing status: pending 2. Revision to By-Laws: pending New Business: 1. Field Dedication: The glider club has been notified about the event. They will not have a presence at the event. The event is not a AMA sanctioned event. There really is no need for a sanction. Extra insurance for the event is not needed. The Coussens (property owners) have been extended an invitation to attend the event. Bruce Nelson, the area V.P. has also been extended an invitation to attend. Hillsboro Hobby Shop and Tammies Hobbies have been invited and will be donating gift certificate for the event. Need to get the port-a-potty cleaned and bring in a second one for the event. Have hand soap and towels available. Mark will take care of the grills, propane, coffee, soda, water, trash receptacles, tables, cups, plates, utensils, food, etc. Cliff and Scott to bring canopies, Curt to bring a generator and a P.A. system. Have a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. Scott to cut the ribbon using an electric powered plane. From 12:30 to 1:00 have a few demo flights. At 1:00 Bob will do a fly by in his RV-4 along with a glider from the glider club. 2. Field development: Bob Duncan proposed an auction idea to raise money for the club. No raffles, no show and tell. Meeting adjourned at approx 8:45 9
