3 2015 Hog Roast and Campout Fall is right around the corner, and with the changing of seasons brings us our annual Hog Roast! This year s edition will be held Sept 18 th and 19 th at Heyde Field in Manvel, ND (8ND4). Camping with be available both nights, with a cookout and bonfire on the night of the 18 th. Saturday will play host to the first ever EAA 1342 Horseshoe Tournament! The tournament will be comprised of 8 to 12 teams. Each team will have 2 players, and fee to enter is $10/team. To register your team, David (davidleiting47@hotmail.com), with your team name and members. This event will offer a wonderful opportunity to volunteer with the chapter. We will need help setting up on Friday, serving food both days, cooking food on Friday, officiating horseshoes, and cleaning up on Sunday. Chapter 1342 also invites everyone to bring a side dish for Friday evening, or Saturday s Hog Roast. Below: The event flier with more detailed information. 3

4 Oshkosh Rewind! What a fantastic week! Chapter 1342 made its presence know at this year s annual Fly-In Convention. Oshkosh: EAA 1342 by the Numbers members attended 9 members put in 250 Volunteer Hours 6 members attend the event while representing another company 7 members flew into the event Members arrived from 5 different states 30 additional guests attended out cookout (nearly 60 total) As you can see, EAA 1342 made quite the impact on AirVenture This event really displayed the true passion for aviation that our group has also welcomed about 15 students, from various universities, to our campsite for the week. Memories and friendships were made that will last a lifetime. In case you missed the event, or just wish you could be back in Oshkosh, below are some pictures from our group s visit! 6 Passion Flights for Life Jim Davis, of Mountian Home, Ark. has embarked on the journey of a lifetime. Davis is 74 years old, and has been diagnosed with lung cancer, possibly stage 4. Jim has already beat cancer multiple times! Jim has a plan to help other cancer patients; by visiting each of the lower 48 states to give a cancer victim/survivor an airplane ride in his Savannah XL. Davis aircraft (below) has been dubbed, Purple Passion. Jim has been contacting local EAA Chapters to assist him with such things as media coverage, hangar space, food, transportation, and finding a cancer patient. Recently, Jim reached out to 1342, with a plan to stop in Grand Forks around August 17 th. This will be stop 46 out of 48!! Jim will have a better idea of his exact date of arrival, once he is 3-4 days out. Tina Druskins has been in contact with the local Relay for Life, to help find Jim a patient to give a flight to. 7 There hasn t been a time in Tina s life that she wasn t around airplanes. Tina s mom, a flight instructor and former cargo pilot, used to take Tina and her brother flying at very young ages. Tina recalls that her favorite part about flying was when her mom would do updowns. Now a senior at UND studying Aviation Management, Tina hopes to one day fly cargo or part 135 charters. She also hopes to build her very own Christen Eagle bi-plane. Recently, Tina competed in the annual Women s Air Race Classic, where her team finished 2 nd! Tina s love for everything aviation embodies exactly what EAA is all about!
