AGENDA TOPICS WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS Tricia Teal opened the meeting and welcomed the cabinet and everyone introduced themselves. She encouraged everyone to make any special announcements or share any information they would like to with the membership. 1

2 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: PRESENTATIONS Kristie Homer moved to motion approval of March 2013 minutes. Seconded by Bernie Johns. All in favor: Yes Verlese Pender talked about the May 9 th Walk for MH Awareness Month at Alive After 5 in Sanford, Florida. FAMILY VOICE / FFCFL UPDATE The Federation of Central Florida holds a monthly meeting for Seminole County Families on the last Thursday of the month at the Casselberry Library from 5:30 pm 7:30 pm. Free dinner and childcare are provided. Muriel Jones presented. Waiting to Exhale Gala will be held in October Empowerment Not Fear a recent presentation. Jennifer Grant with the Early Learning Coalition has donated space for family meetings. Thank you! April 28 th Muriel Jones and Tracy Pellegrino presented at The League of Women Voters and it went well. Crystal is putting together two new groups for family members. Serving ~65 families in the last year. They need a donated laptop for an interns use. Space is needed as lease for Seminole Behavioral Health will be up soon. There are two family partner positions still open. Change Team Update Communications Communications Committee Meeting is held the Second Tuesday at Impower (new offices in 587 East SR 434, Suite 1021, Longwood, FL 32750) of every month at 11:00 2

3 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Judy Creel spoke to the group on behalf of Lynn Whitcomb. Please visit the website is please let her know of any agency updates/corrections etc. Goal is for calendar to be live and active. They need content for the website. Meetings and Trainings are posted as well. Change team meetings are listed there as well. Focus now is Children s Mental Health Awareness Month. Received 1 st proclamation from the city of Sanford, FL. Day focus is May 9 th. Many more meetings will take place around the various 7 cities of Seminole County. Alive After 5 next awareness event. Hero of Hope participation encouraged. If you want to eat fee is $7 free if you don t eat. Theme is Cinco de Mayo. FACTS/SOC (Families and Communities Together & System of Care) Tracy Pellegrino, Program Director for Families and Communities Together reported. Membership Presentations are being made to the cities and county for the Proclamation for Children s Mental Health Awareness. She talked about the summary created recently about the progress with the SOC program. Provided an overview of the grant. Parent gave a testimonial about WRAP and Federation of Families and how they helped her family tremendously and how grateful she is. Membership Committee Meeting is held the First Friday of every month from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. at CBC Service Center. New Chair is Crystal Lilly. Please make sure you sign in for match and that your information is current! Tricia thanked Julie Harmon as she has changed jobs and can no longer participate as chair. Focus now is to encourage pediatricians to participate in the cabinet. Please fill out new membership forms if you haven t already. 3

4 Research & Evaluation Community Focus: Grants & Funding New Business Old Business Research & Evaluation Meeting is held the First Wednesday of every month from 1:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at the Pathways Office AND the third Wednesday of every month combined with Community Focus 9:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. at the Pathways Office. Corrie presented on behalf of Dan. Discussion was primarily about CANS and current activities. Invited everyone to the meeting today at the JAC 1-3 p.m. Community Focus Meeting is held 1 st Wednesday of every month at 10:15 a.m. at the CBC service center (Sanford Room). Heather Howlett presented. Reviewed the 5-year plan. Tasks are Resource Pointe, Support Child Abuse Prevention Efforts, making certain the community is trained on the 5 Protective Factors, Adoption Promotion & Support, as well as Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Awareness. They also focus on the SOC and WRAP and currently they did a file review to make certain there are no gaps etc. Focus on family voice and choice, youth based, culturally competent and strength based, etc. to be certain the child/family is being served well by all 10 WRAP principles. Grants & Funding Meeting is held the Fourth Wednesday of every month from 2:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at Wraparound Orange. No report given/group not meeting at this time. None. None. 4

5 Announcements has ~1000 agencies listed in it for families to access. CAPTF Community Walk will be at 9:30 a.m. in Sanford, FL (Carriage Cove neighborhood) families visited. Stuffing party will be tomorrow to make bags. Thanks to those who came out at Lake Eola for the press conference. Volunteer opportunities for teens available at Just Between Friends. Mary Elizabeth McIlvane spoke about John Hopkins University-Moore Center to prevent Childhood Sexual Abuse. Debbie Owens talked about prescription drug disposal have out info and magnets DEA National Take Back Day. Pet medications are also welcome. Fire Stations in Florida will give you a free sharp container for needle disposal Kids House Get Out Your Blues Campaign- WEAR BLUE that day in honor of awareness!
