There have also been some things that will be hard to do in the future. The Partnership Board will continue working hard for people in Sefton. 2 Bridge Inn Farm Christmas Sale Bridge Inn Farm invites you to come along and see them this Christmas. Come and get your Christmas tree or wreaths from us. We have also been making Christmas Hyacinth potted plants which would make a lovely gift or decoration in your home. This year we have been making soaps and candles. These will be lovely presents for your friends and family. Just come along to the farm - choose your tree and gifts. Have a warm drink and see what we do here. You can meet the animals if you like. The farm is run by people with learning disabilities and they are very proud of what they have been doing. There is also a Christmas pantomime performed by the Bridge Inn drama group. This will be on Tuesday 18th December and Wednesday 19th December from 1pm Page 2 Partnership

3 Bridge Inn Farm Christmas Sale The farm is supported by a group of friends. They work to raise money for activities for the people who come to the farm. This group is called the Friends of Bridge Inn Farm. They are looking for people to join them in their work. Ring to find out more. They have the 100 club which is 1 a week. A person wins the money prize every week and the extra goes to the charity. They have been raising money for the activities for people who use the farm. This has meant they have been able to have trips out. So far they have been to Blackpool and also Knowsley Safari Park. They are raising money to buy trikes (three wheeled bikes) so people can come along and go out on cycling lessons with a trained instructor. 5 Partnership Board -Transitions There was a meeting of the Learning Disabilities Partnership Board on Friday 9th November. This meeting was about Transitions. Young people aged between 18 and 22 came to the meeting. We asked them to make a shield. This would show Their hopes and dreams Their skills and qualities Their favourite place Their favourite song Everyone enjoyed showing their art to the group. They explained what was on their shield. This information helps that partnership board to understand what young people want. The young people enjoyed telling us what they liked. This is also the start of a person centred plan for those people who do not have one. If you would like to get involved in the work of the partnership board please contact Michelle Green. 6 Assistive Technology Assistive Technology is also called Telecare. Telecare is a way of using different sensors in a persons home. These help a person to live independently. They are there to tell the right people if a person needs help. The Sefton Careline portable alarm is a button worn by the person. If you have a fall or you cannot get to a phone you can press the button. This will then tell the Careline staff that you are in trouble. They will speak to you through the connect box and make sure you are ok. They will contact a member of your family or the emergency services for you. There are lots of different ways that technology can be used to keep people safe in their homes. The different types of technology will depend on what the person needs. Page 6 Partnership

7 Assistive Technology Some of the technology available is... Fall detector - that can sense if a person has had a fall. Exit sensor - to tell if a person has left their home and not returned. Light and sound beacon - to see and hear when a sensor or telephone is activated. Bed or Chair sensor - to know if a person is in bed or sat in a chair. Epilepsy sensor - to know if someone is having an epileptic fit in a bed. Bogus Call button - put by the front door to use if there is a stranger trying to get into your home. 9 Smile Christmas Play Are you interested in performing taking part in productions completing an ASDAN qualification in performing arts or just would like to join in the fun and games as a hobby? 10 Partnership 30 (P)_Layout 1 16/11/ :46 Page 11 Leisure Centres Sefton Council s Leisure and Cultural Services have developed a new project with Sefton New Directions. New Directions have day services for people with disabilities and older people. People who go to these day services are now being asked if they would like to do something a little different. In Sefton we have brand new leisure centres. They have many different activities in and around them. The centres being used so far are x Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre x Meadows in Maghull x Dunes in Southport x Netherton Activity Centre People who usually use day services are going to leisure centres. They are trying lots of different activities. They are asking people what they would like to do or try. Page Page Partnership

Cooking and Life skills Orienteering Swimming Joining in with exercise classes If you would like to get involved in any of the activities with support from staff then get in touch with New Directions. 12 Supported Trips Out Would you like to go and see.. musicals plays concerts dance shows films pantomime at Christmas? 2gether Activities will support you in small groups to go to the theatre or cinema to see a show or a film. How it works. Tell us what you would like to see. We will book your tickets and make all the arrangements for you. We will support you to go to a show of your choice. People First Merseyside is 25 years old next year in As part of the celebrations, the self advocacy organisation is holding a Memories Day at Goddard Hall in Bootle on Wednesday 12 th December Pop in any time between 10.30am and 3.30pm If you have ever had anything to do with People First Merseyside in Sefton or Liverpool since it started you are welcome to drop in and: Meet the group Share your memories Show us any old photos Have your story filmed Have your story written down Have some Christmas refreshments with the team Page 14 Newsletter Title

16 Active Choices Discount Card The choices card will give you 40% discount at leisure and cultural places in Sefton. People with disabilities will also get a companion card for support staff to join them free of charge.
