2 Page 2 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE arvest time is upon us.. H In Italy, October picks up with harvest and food related festivals, including the famous white truffle festival in Alba as well as other truffle festivals in central Italy, but arguably the best-known food festival in October is Perugia s EuroChocolate. The town is completely packed with chocolate demonstrations, sculptors, and vendors, which the air is packed with the aroma of cocoa. Aside from food festivals, there are saints days in October that are important to the towns whose patron saints are being celebrated. There are lots of local and regional festivals but none bigger than the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The feast is the most important festival of the Franciscan calendar in Assisi, Italy. It commemorates the saint s transition from this life to the afterlife. For two days, starting on October 3, the town of Assisi is illuminated by oil lamps burning consecrated oil brought from a different Italian town each year. In Windsor, we also have an exciting and important time as we will elect a new mayor. The board acknowledges the importance of this election and is therefore hosting a Mayoral Meet-N-Greet prior to our October 7th General Assembly meeting. From 5:30 to 7:00, you will get an opportunity to meet, talk to and question, with most of the Mayoral Candidates. We have already had a very positive response from all the Candidates and they are excited to meet our membership and provide you with some personal insight into their plans for our wonderful city. We have all the frontrunners confirmed like Dilkens, Millson, Horwitz and Easterbrook. We are also inviting many of the Italians running for Council to come out and meet our members. Should a great night. Make sure you are there by 5:30 to take advantage of the opportunity. I want to see a full house! As mentioned before, I have a goal this year and that goal is centered on the idea of ONE. We will be ONE CIBPA, engaged to make a difference through valued relationship with our Members, our Guests and OUR Community! The Meet-N-Greet is important with respect to CIBPA s relationship with our community. When: Tuesday October 7, 2014 Time: 5:30 7:00 p.m. Location: Ciociaro Club, North Talbot Rd., Salon C CIBPA Windsor is inviting the public and their membership to come meet the candidates which all have accepted the invitation. The candidates will give a moment to speak on their ideas and platform. The public will have a chance to greet them individually.

3 Page 3 Charity Poker Tournament Welcome CIBPA Members to a new and exciting year. Back by popular demand is our 2nd Annual CIBPA Poker Tournament on Friday, November 14. The event will be hosted at the Caboto Club this year and the cost of this event will be $80. All funds raised will help support our scholarship program and another charity to be named later. Our winner last year was our own CIBPA member, Joe Sasso. Dinner will also be served at this event. There will be many great prizes and raffles so come out and support CIBPA and have fun doing it. I look forward to seeing you all at this great event. Corey Castellan Special Events Chair, CIBPA Windsor CIBPA WINDSOR YOUNG PROFESSIONAL GROUP An exciting new initiative will be launched on behalf of the young professionals of CIBPA Windsor Essex. As current vicepresident of the organization I will be working alongside our president to bring together a group of young Italians carrying on the valued CIBPA traditions. We would like to call upon our current membership to promote this idea and support our endeavours so we can make a difference in our local community. We have already heard from many of our established members that this group is very important to the longevity of CIBPA in Windsor. This group will be involved in fundraising, networking, socializing, education and many other avenues of interest brought forward by our members. We would like to welcome all those young Italian professionals to join with us as we now hold the responsibility of carrying on our valued traditions and culture. I look forward to this revitalization and working with many of you going forward. To all of the volunteers who made themselves available for the tedious task of setting up and tearing down props; to the Pupatello family for their tremendous help with the transportation and storing of our props; to our family and friends for always supporting our event and lastly, to Fabio Pupatello for being our Caesar this year. We dedicated a special tribute to our beloved friend Vinicio Pupatello that night and wanted the family to know how special he has been to our Roman Festival over the years... he will be our Caesar Forever! The Roman Festival event is CIBPA s signature event, dating back to 1969, it is part of the Italian heritage in this community and a small group of us brought it back seven years ago. We would like to keep this tradition going, however the lack of CIBPA membership support may make it prohibitive. I welcome any feedback and suggestions on this event, moving forward.
