The Board of Directors meets following each membership meeting. Members of the Month Have Any Ideas?? The SBSC Board would like to highlight a few members of our club each month. Previously, we have done this with our MEMBERS OF THE MONTH. We are interested in hearing your ideas on a different way to recognize 2 or 3 members each month. Please share any ideas you may have with any of the Board members. We hope to start this recognition again before the end of the year. Put those creative minds to work and help us out!!! Shag Lessons!! On Thursday, Sept. 29, Robin and John will be teaching Beginners I classes at 6:30pm. This includes 4 classes for a total of $20 per person. Also, on the 29 th, a Lead and Follow Class will be taught at 7:45pm ($5). You should know the basic shag step to be successful in this class. See the lessons section on the website for more details. Our next dance lesson be on October 6th at 6:30pm and it will go for two hours. REMEMBER: SBSC never meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Adopt A Highway Schedule SOS Cards for Sale! Elks Lodge Reminders Information- United We Dance Zumba Class!! There will be a Zumba Class taught at the Elks Lodge October 20th from 6:30pm until 7:30pm. The cost will be $3 for members and guests. Classes are taught by certified Zumba instructor, Karen Johnston, a SBSC member. Line dancing will follow the Zumba Class.

4 Page 4 Sandkicker Summary Of The ACSC Business Meeting held September 24th at SOS Sandy Beach Shag Club as part of its membership to the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs, is required to attend three meetings a year. There are two mandatory meetings during the year called the Winter Workshop and the Summer Workshop. There are three additional meetings held during the year, of which we must attend at least one. Those meetings are the Spring SOS, Fall SOS, and Mid-Winter. Traditionally, we have attended all the meeting regardless of the fact they are mandatory. There is a great deal of useful information that is disseminated at these meetings, and elections for different positions are held during these times. Attending the meeting on behalf of Sandy Beach Shag Club were John Carpenter, Robin Morley, and Arlene Coley. We were given our 2012 installment of SOS cards. They will be available for sale immediately and more information can be found on page 9 about sales of the new SOS cards. The meeting started with the introduction of Officers. Minutes were not read by acclamation. The expense reports of both ACSC and the SOS Charitable Foundation were examined. The Summer and Winter Workshop locations were announced. The Summer Workshop is in Jacksonville, FL, and the Winter Workshop is in Hilton Head. Icon nominations are due by November 1st. Ellen Taylor discussed a print for sale to raise money for the Charitable Foundation. I won t bore you with all of the agenda, but I did want to tell you about some interesting information. Oh, the winner of the $7,500 check for Fun Monday was Martha Osboune of the Sandhills Shag Club. The largest Shag Club is the O.D. Shag Club with 817 members. C.S.R.A. Shag Club has 538 members in second place, while Beaufort Shag Club has the third most at 425. Sandy Beach Shag Club had 210 at the time of the previous reporting and that put us in 23rd for most members. There are 99 member clubs. There are 21 clubs with 200 or more members. With regards to Fun Monday ticket sales, we sold 100 and that ties for 6th place in that category! A job well done for SBSC!! Sandy Beach Shag Club is to be congratulated for the fine showing at SOS, for Fun Monday ticket sales, and for being the type of Shag Club that demonstrates a successful attitude in everything that they do. 7 Volume 1 Issue 9 Page 7 SOS Recap! One perspective of many. SOS Fall Migration Sept Ocean Drive, SC Fall SOS has come and gone and we had a great time this SOS. For those of you that have never been, I encourage you to come to North Myrtle Beach and join us in all of the fun and activities that this trip presents. Robin and I enjoyed another memorable stay at Ocean Bay Condominiums and I must say that it is the perfect place to stay for SOS. We have become beach enthusiasts, and all you need to do to find us is look for the Sandy Beach Shag Club banner that is prominently placed on our balcony each time we go. We have gotten into playing Corn Hole which is a great game to play at the beach. You will be proud to know that Steve Coley and I represented SBSC well and lost very few matches to opposing Shag Clubs. We have some up and coming new players and some pretty good veterans. Look for Alan Brown, Charles Monahan, and Jeff Morse to represent the Club well going into the future. We spent a bunch of time on the beach with our friends from CSRA Shag Club. SBSC might organize a trip to their club in March of We also spent our fair share of time at OD Arcade, Ducks, Pirates Cove, and Fat Harolds. We do spend the greater share at OD Arcade because it is so close. We had our party there on Thursday the 22nd, and we had over 60 members that attended. We also had a total of about 80 to 90 people. Kyle Beam, the DJ, led us all in our Club dance, the Twist. Robin and I also participated in the Guinness World Record for most shaggers dancing at one time, which we set. The last record was 250 and we had somewhere between 900 and It was a sight to behold. The Boards of ACSC and SOS did a great job of organizing the event which was held at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic Center. We want to thank Grier Franklin and Dorothy Barrier for opening up their beach home to all of us. Also, thanks to the Browns, Jeff Morse, Lela Duke, Deannes Short and company for having the party at their condo. I learned a very valuable lesson while there. Don t stand too close to the couch! We also had a good time at Fun Sunday and Fun Monday. The sun came out at all of the right times and even though there was plenty of rain in the area, we managed to dodge most of it. I can say with regret, that no one from SBSC won any of the money that was being given away even though we certainly had our share of tickets that we bought. I hope those that went to SOS had a great time, and those that did not go, will consider going next year! We hope to have a parade float in the Spring John Carpenter-

But it sure is fun to make your mark If their feet aren't in the right place, at least their hearts are. Christian M. Chensvold A Virtual Sea of Shaggers On September 22, 2011, the Guinness World Record for Shaggers dancing at the same time was set during SOS at North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Elks Lodge Reminders *Please sign register at the corner of the bar in the main hall before entering the bar or dining area to order drink or food on Thursday nights. *If you have dinner, you are required to sign in with a member of the lodge in order to eat. Members will gladly work with you. *After 3 visits, you must join the lodge to continue to use its dining facilities. This does NOT include visits in the main hall, shag parties, etc. We encourage you to become a member of the Elks. You may ask a member for an application. *If you are BOTH an Elk and a SBSC member, these above rules do NOT apply to you.
