2 Welcome to Team Now We re really excited to have you on board as the team leader for your university! As a member of Breast Cancer Now s team leader programme you ll receive structured skills-based training, support throughout the year, and recognition of your role in recruiting and supporting your university s team. You ll find all the information you need to make a success of your challenge in this guide.

3 The time Ground-breaking research into all forms of breast cancer is taking place near you right now. is now Thank you for joining us. Whether you walk, run, cycle, skydive or swim to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, you ll be supporting cutting-edge research to find ways to stop this devastating disease taking lives. But that doesn t mean we ve got breast cancer under control. More than 50,000 women in the UK will be told they have the disease this year. That s one woman every 10 minutes. At more than 29 universities and research centres across the UK and Ireland. We re working with hospitals across the country to make sure breast cancer patients get the best services and support. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. One in eight women will face it in their lifetime. Nearly 700,000 people living in the UK have experienced a diagnosis. Research has made incredible progress, but despite all we ve achieved women are still dying from breast cancer and they re dying on a heart-breaking scale. Survival rates for breast cancer have increased dramatically. More than 80 percent of women who develop breast cancer will now live beyond five years. 40 years ago, it was only around half. Nearly 1,000 women in the UK die from breast cancer every month. We can t live with that. It s time to act. We support nearly 450 of the world s brightest researchers. 4 ] What are your main responsibilities? What does the role involve? As a team leader you are responsible for four key things: 1. Recruiting a team 2. Supporting their fundraising 3. Facilitating the team getting to know each other 4. Communicating with Breast Cancer Now You are the first point of contact on campus for participants. You ll be the name and face everyone will get to know. Breast Cancer Now will expect you to: Work closely with the RAG to plan and co-ordinate promotion and recruitment using our recuritment guide Be present at information and welcome meetings to meet the team Complete each monthly mission set by Breast Cancer Now Hold one-to-one and group meetings to support participants with their fundraising Organise at least one collection opportunity and one fundraising event for the team Plan socials to get to know the team Have a passion for fundraising Show commitment to the role Ensure you learn about the work of Breast Cancer Now

5 What support will team leaders receive? How will it work? By taking on the role of team leader you ll get: Training leading to a leadership certificate Breast Cancer Now sweatshirt A reduction in your fundraising target based on the completion of each monthly mission The support of a dedicated member of staff Monthly reports on your team s status Support to prepare for employment A reference An invitation to the House of Lords thank you event Monthly missions From September you ll be given a set of monthly missions these will range from setting up your promotional campaign to holding a social event for your team. At the end of each month you ll need complete a mission report to log your progress and enable us to support you as needed. Leadership certificate In order to receive your leadership certificate at the end of the academic year you ll need to complete at least 12 of your 15 mission reports. The leadership certificate is an accreditation from Breast Cancer Now which will detail the work and training you have completed during your time as the team leader. Fundraising reduction Your monthly missions will affect the reduction you ll receive for your personal fundraising target. For every mission you complete you ll get a reduction off your fundraising target: 60 for London to Paris and 100 for Budapest to Zargreb. There are 15 missions throughout the year so you could reduce your target significantly.

6 Keeping in touch What happens now? We will always be at the end of the phone if you have a question or want a chat, but we ll also be in touch at the following points every month: Mission report You ll need to complete an online form to record your progress Team report We ll provide you with a detailed breakdown of your team s recruitment or fundraising Catch up call We ll give you a call to discuss the mission report and team report, making sure that everything is running smoothly Start planning We ll schedule a welcome call to chat through the role Attend the team leader training day on Monday 18 September 2017 Use the recruitment guide provided by Breast Cancer Now to put together a promotional plan for your university Order your promotional materials from Breast Cancer Now. Promotion and recruitment Promote recruitment in the 10 days before your information meeting Prepare for and attend the information meeting with Breast Cancer Now Promote the opening of sign up, and continue to let everyone know about the opportunity Work with Breast Caner Now to arrange a welcome meeting and fundraising workshop for all participants. Managing your team Arrange regular team meetings and social events Give the team feedback from the monthly update report from Breast Cancer Now Support participants with their two fundraising deadlines.
