2 Q Tip Series: Reframing Conflict Missouri 4-H is interested in making the best better in our youth, our leaders and our programs. An ongoing program improvement process called Quality Matters in 4-H is underway in Missouri. The Quality or Q -Tip series includes short, research-based tips to help youth and adult leaders be more intentional about planning 4-H club meetings and other events where members feel safe, supported and engaged in fun, interactive activities. Reframing Conflict Conflict occurs when two or more people s beliefs, actions or attitudes don t line up. This can happen between adults and youths. Conflict is a normal occurrence in youth programs, and it is one of the most chronic issues noted by youth workers. Until we are comfortable and consistent when we deal with conflict, we will continue to find it a distraction in daily program life. According to HighScope, to provide a high quality program, youth workers must reframe conflict and find ways for growth and learning inside these often-frustrating situations. A few key behaviors that help reframe conflict: Leaders approach the situation calmly and acknowledge feelings. Leaders ask involved youths about the cause and the possible solutions. Leaders encourage youths to consider the effects of their actions. There is follow-up afterward. By reframing conflict using these behaviors, staff build a healthy, cohesive group and encouraged learning and growth for the young person. Moniteau County Are you interested in shooting sports? Do you need more information? We are currently working with Cooper County to provide the opportunity for Moniteau County youth. They are having an information meeting on Monday, December 11 from 6-8 pm at the Cooper County Fairgrounds. Everyone is invited to attend. West Cent ral Regional Energizer It s West Central Regional Energizer time again! The 2018 Energizer will be January 27 from 9:30 3:00 at the Clinton Middle School. There will be three 55- minute workshop on topics such as livestock, scrapbooking, robotics, photography, natural resources, foods, SMQA, entrepreneurship, clover kid room, public speaking, volunteer orientation, gardening, and several others. Workshops will be available for all ages from clover kids to experienced volunteers. During the Energizer, those wanting to run for State 4-H Council Regional Representative or have been selected for Senior MRFs will be doing their interviews and those selected to go on will be announced at the end of the Energizer. Cost will be $10 if registered by January 12 and will be $15 at the door. This cost includes lunch, however, if you sign up after January 12 we cannot guarantee lunch. More info and registration from in this newsletter. Registrations will be paid for by the each county.

You ll meet amazing new friends, learn how to be a better leader and get a heads-up on all the exciting things waiting for you as a 4-H teenager! Teen Conference is safe and fun, and the hotel is super nice. Cost is $179 (if you share the large bed with a friend you select) or $229 (if you prefer your own bed). Missouri Youth Civic Leaders Summit March 2-4, 2018 Windermere Conference Center Roach MO The Missouri Youth Civic Leaders Summit is a statewide energizer for teens ages and adult leaders who are active in leadership and service, and want to make a difference in their communities and world! Sign up in 4honline. Clover Kid Corner Through Clover Kids clubs, children learn how to get along, share, and work in groups, explore their interests, and build self-confidence. Each Clover Kids Corner provides an activity, information or other materials that Clover Kids leaders can use in planning and implementing experiences that introduce five to seven-year olds to the 4-H experience. Chocolate-Dipped Pretzel Rods Supplies One bag of pretzel rods 2-ounce bag semisweet or white chocolate chips 2 tablespoons butter Microwave-safe bowl Cookie sheet lined with waxed paper Spoon, flat spatula, and table knife Sprinkles (optional) Directions 1. Put chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave on high for 1½ minutes. Stir with spoon. If the chips are not melted, heat for 30 more seconds and stir again. 2. Dip the spatula into the melted chocolate. Roll the pretzel rod in the chocolate on the spatula so it is half covered. (Melted white chocolate can be a little lumpy, so you may need to smooth it over the pretzel with the knife.). Add sprinkles if desired. 3. Lay each chocolate-dipped pretzel on the cookie sheet. Let the dipped pretzels sit for 30 minutes before serving. Do not refrigerate.

Moniteau County 4-H T-shirts The Moniteau County 4-H Council is selling t-shirts and sweatshirts. Choice of Small clover on left shoulder area or Large clover on middle of chest. Choice of Short Sleeve T-Shirt, Long Sleeve T -Shirt, and Sweatshirt. Choice of colors: Irish Green, Dark Gray, Navy, and Hot Pink. Choice of glitter on the logo or not. Contact your club leader for order form or Elaine at andersonela@missouri.edu. 4-H Move Across Missouri (MOVE) MOVE is back for 2018! And, youth and adults can register for it on 4HOnline!! Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins now and continues until May 1. As you know, MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youths to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more. Here s what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. Using a paper tracking system found on the 4-H website at: youth and their families can log the number of minutes they accumulate throughout the year and during the competitive component of the MOVE program (scroll to the bottom of the website page and click My Move Activity Log ). Record keeping through the paper tracking system is important because the competition period will be from February 1 to April 30. Youth and families will submit their total number of minutes logged and activities (basketball, running, chores, etc.) throughout the 12-week competitive period between May 1-15 in 4HOnline. 4-Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOV- Er may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. MOVE awards will be provided.
