Cake & punch will served Come celebrate the achievements of our 4-Hers and their families Club Leader & Project Leader Training with Volunteer Orientation There will be a 4-H Club Leader training on Thursday, November 15 th at 6pm, at the Adair County Extension Center in Kirksville. The training will take about an hour and will be followed by Volunteer Orientation and Project Leader training. All volunteers are invited to attend. 2 Achievement Day will be mandatory this 4-H Year! What does that mean? It means every 4-H youth will have to have at least one item at Achievement Day on July 18th, So if you are only in animal projects, you would need to make a poster or a feed ration or a halter or use your imagination. If you chose not to do a project you can help set up on Wednesday or clean up on Thursday. If you are on vacation, you may send your project with someone else. Any other questions give us a call, we will be glad to find an answer. Let s fill the 4-H Bldg. with 4-H project again! Several members have signed up for Shooting Sports projects this year. 4-H shooting sports are different from other projects, with different leaders and project participation requirements. There will be an informational meeting for everyone signed up to learn about Shooting Sports program on Thursday, November 29th at 6:00 pm in the 4-H Building at Fairgrounds. 4-H Move Across Missouri (MOVE) Alison Copeland MOVE in 2019! 4-H MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youth to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more. Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins January 1, 2018 and continues until May 1 (please make sure to register by May 1 so you can participate in the competition!). Here s what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. Using a paper tracking system found on the 4-H website at: youth and their families can log the number of minutes they accumulate throughout the year and during the competitive component of the MOVE program (scroll to the bottom of the website page and click My Move Activity Log ). Record keeping through the paper tracking system is important because the competition period will be from February 1 to April 30. Youth and families will submit their total number of minutes logged and activities (basketball, running, chores, etc.) throughout the 12 week competitive period between May 1-15 in 4HOnline. 4-Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOVEr may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. MOVE awards will be provided. Citizenship Washington Focus Patty Fisher & Sarah Morefield The Citizenship Washington Focus trip is scheduled and confirmed for June 22-July 1, 2019! 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a weeklong summer program in Washington, DC where high school students learn about government and citizenship. Youth get a chance to see George Washington s home of Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, many of the memorials located in Washington, D.C., as well as all of the Smithsonian Museums. The groups will also take advantage of being in the Nation s Capital to meet with senators and representatives on Capitol Hill! A statewide delegation of teens and chaperones from Missouri attend CWF every other summer. The Summer 2019 trip will include one group of approx. 35 youth, ages 15-19, traveling together with the trip coordinator and chaperones. Estimated trip cost will be $2,000 per youth, paid in four installments over several months. Youth applications will be due by December 3, 2018, along with the first payment installment. Remaining installment due dates will be January 14, February 15, and April 15, 2019.

3 4-H Volunteer Impact Study You May Be Contacted Anne Reeder What you do makes a difference! We are excited to share that our state will be participating in 4-H Volunteer Impact Study of volunteers in the North Central Region. This survey is being conducted as a part of 12 state effort to document the impact of volunteering. It will focus on three areas: the personal benefits of your volunteer experience; the impact you have on the organization by volunteering; and how your volunteer efforts contribute to your community in which you live and work. A random sample of volunteers of 1000 volunteers from each state will be surveyed. This study will be conducted through an electronic survey. If you are selected you will receive an to let you know you have been selected to participate. You may be picked! If you are, please respond. We want to hear from you and learn from your volunteer experiences. Your comments will be used to quantify the personal, organizational and public impacts of volunteers involved with 4-H Youth Development Programs in our twelve state region. Your impact is great and we want to hear from you! Missouri 4-H Spin Clubs 4-H SPIN clubs allow youth ages 5 to 18 with common interests or hobbies to meet as a club and share and learn more about their special interest. Whatever their passion is, youth can gain knowledge and enhance their skills through a positive group experience. A 4-H SPIN club can be started with a minimum of one adult volunteer and five young people with an interest in a particular topic. The adult(s) provide expertise and guidance. They are a great way to introduce young people to a specific topic or interest they might not otherwise have a chance to develop within a group setting built around the principles of Positive Youth Development (PYD). If you know someone with a talent or passion for a project, no matter what it is, contact the Putnam County Extension Center. 4-H Legislative Academy Feb , 2019 in Jefferson City Legislative Academy is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for 4-H teens to be ambassadors for Missouri 4-H at the Heart of Missouri state government in Jefferson City. Youth delegates from across the state are selected by 4-H to meet with executive, legislative, and judicial state government leaders. Highlights also include shadowing state legislators, and meeting with commodity groups, state agencies, and major supporters of the 4-H program. The Academy provides teens with opportunities to share their 4-H experiences and success stories, while gaining leadership and citizenship skills for careers in public service, law, journalism, public relations, lobbying, and related fields. 4 The Missouri Livestock Symposium will be held December 1st at the Kirksville Middle School. It is an annual educational program and trade show that attracts participants from throughout Missouri and beyond. It is recognized nationally as an outstanding program that targets agricultural producers & landowners. Workshops led by nationally-known speakers in the areas of horses, beef, sheep, stock dogs, meat goats, forages, around the home, small poultry production and farm continuation planning. The Symposium is FREE to attend and includes the largest trade show in NE Missouri. More information can be found at The Missouri Youth Civic Leaders Summit is a statewide energizer for teens ages and adult leaders who are active in leadership and service, and want to make a difference in their communities and world! The Summit is designed for teams of teens and adults who represent a local club, council, afterschool program, community group, organization, community, or county. Both new and experienced teams are welcome! Penny Kittle is trying to put a team together from our area, so let her know if you are interested in being part of the team. 5 4-H Feeding Missouri Alison Copeland The goal of 4-H Feeding Missouri is to raise one million meals the month of February in a first-of-its-kind statewide food drive, and every 4-H club in the state can contribute to its success! From February 1-28, 4-Hers across Missouri will engage in a friendly service competition to see which clubs can contribute the greatest amount of food, donations and volunteer hours. They ll have an opportunity to organize and/or participate in food drives, fundraising, volunteerism and educational outreach to learn about hunger and food insecurity. Stay tuned for more information! In the meantime, please consider including educational opportunities about hunger and food insecurity during club meetings and other events leading up to the February drive. Included on the 4-H Feeding Missouri webpage is a resource section that features a 4-H: Empowering Youth to End Hunger in Their Communities Toolkit with ready-made activities for youth to learn about this topic. You can draw from this resource to help youth learn about hunger and food insecurity. Make plans to attend the 4-H Zoo Apprentice Camp for Ages 14+ or the 4-H Junior Zoo Apprentice for Ages It wil be held at Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida - December 29, 2018 to January 2, 2019 The world's largest zoological organization partners with Missouri 4-H to offer Missouri Youth an opportunity to discover, learn, laugh and experience one-ofa-kind adventures with animals from around the world. Youth in attendance will become amateur zookeepers and discover firsthand what it takes to care for animals from around the world. Assist zoo staff behind the scenes and observe animal care sessions. Youth in attendance will be living inside Busch Gardens. They will investigate the mysteries of the animal kingdom, getting up-close to animals they have never seen before. And in between life changing moments, participants will enjoy World Class Entertainment in our nation s 4th most popular amusement park. $592 Registration fee does not include airfare to and from Tampa.
