1 THE NANAIMO AUXILIARY TO THE NANAIMO REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a great holiday season and are looking forward to a New Year and I m sure you all have your New Year s resolutions started. It is that time of year again with a lot happening. First off our General Meeting is on February 16 th at the Brechin Church Hall and it is time to approve the amounts allocated to the different Departments of the Hospital and to give to the Hospital Foundation a donation. Please try to attend. Our AGM is also coming up on March 16, 2015 at Beban Park and we need to know the attendance for the caterer and there will be posters put up at the Thrift Store and the Gift Shop so you can sign up. You must be a paid up member for 2015 in order to have a vote at the meeting. Elections will be taking place at the meeting so come and vote. The BCAHA Conference will be April 19 th to April 22 nd, 2015 in Richmond. The registration forms will be coming in the mail so please let us know if you are interested in attending. There is a terrific line up of workshops etc. so it will be a very upbeat, interesting Conference. I hope you all have a very successful and prosperous New Year and I will see you soon. 2 The shop enjoyed a great Christmas season thanks in no small part to the work of the buyers who sourced fantastic gifts. The number one best seller were the gloves designed to keep out the cold, yet allow the wearer to text on their smartphone. They are elegantly modelled by Eva Tinga in the photo. Th Gift Shop had a record year with $226, in sales! Congratulations to Coordinator Lois Ohlhausen and all the Gift Shop volunteers who continue to make a real difference to the overall well-being of everyone at the hospital. As usual the Christmas season was very busy, with customers snapping up the bargains particularly the holiday decorations. Even the days immediately after Christmas were very busy, right up until New Year s Eve. The Thrift Store had record sales of $407,999.29! This is the first time sales for the year have exceeded $400,000. Congratulations to Coordinator Lea Spooner and all the volunteers at the Thrift Store. Volunteer Lorrie Anderson met with Treasurer Pat Young and Lea Spooner to present a cheque of $500 donated, on his behalf, by RBC, to the Auxiliary.

3 The Craft and Bake sale held in November was extremely popular as usual - customers quickly bought the wonderful crafts and tasty goodies. The sales were nearly $1,000 from the Bake Sale and nearly $6,500 for the Craft Sale. Congratulations to everyone involved for this tremendous achievement.

4 Thrifty Smile cards are available from the Auxiliary. Do you or someone you know shop at Thrifty's? Would you like to help the Nanaimo Auxiliary to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital purchase equipment for the Hospital? A Thrifty Smile Card can do that. Take your Smile Card with you to Thrifty Foods. Ask the cashier to load any amount you wish onto the card BEFORE having your grocery order rung through. The Auxiliary will receive 5% of the amount you load on the card. So if you put $50 on the card we will receive $2.50. When the balance is running low, load it again to continue raising funds for the Auxiliary. To get your "Smile" card please contact Roberta Miller at rlmiller8@shaw.ca Penelope Rose was born at 8.59 pm on New Year s Eve to parents Krystal Towsse and Thomas Gibson. Penelope weighed in at a healthy 7 lb 6 ozs, and the $50 Gift Certificate was presented by Joan Sawicki. Congratulations to Krystal and Thomas.

5 Held on September 22nd, there were over 100 attendees. Based on the feedback this was hailed as the best Island Conference ever. Special praise has to go to our past president, Lynda Avis, for putting together a great agenda which included speakers like Dr. Drew Digny, Executive Medical Director at NRGH and Georgina MacDonald VP of Island Health Planning and Improvement. The topics were interesting and extremely informative. Also many thanks to the team of helpers who ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. Lynda Avis celebrated her 70 th birthday on the same day as the conference and needed a very large knife to cut the delicious (and large) birthday cake that was presented to her by Goldie Sankovic. Everyone at the conference enjoyed a piece!
