1 2017 NCMA Midyear Meeting Recap Westin Harbour Castle Hotel Toronto, ON August 21-24, 2017 Steve Berry Oldcastle Architectural, APG 2017 Chairman of the Board 2017 Midyear Meeting Recap NCMA had a great Midyear Meeting in Toronto. Our committees made great progress, including finalizing our strategic plan, developing the agenda for ICON EXPO 2018, and advancing initiatives. NCMA is heading into next year focusing on market growth and strengthening our relationships with our members. We have set the foundation for 2018 to be a great year for NCMA! Setting Strategy The Board approved the new strategic plan for This plan focuses on two outcomes - increasing market share for our products and enhancing association value for our members. The six strategic goals in this diagram are key to achieving these outcomes. Goals (703)

2 What You Missed! New! Regional Breakouts Following Town Hall, each region hosted a new format of breakouts moderated by Board members who discussed regional issues and opportunities. Staff and members took a break from meetings to view the solar eclipse. Unit Design Competition 1st Place Iowa State University 2nd Place Ball State University 3rd Place North Carolina State University Women in Masonry! Danielle Bach, Lindsey Geeslin, Starling Johnson Having NCMA s Midyear! Dry Cast Adhered Veneer Units The Masonry Committee is now embarking on developing a new ASTM standard for drycast adhered veneer concrete masonry units. I Ball State Award Anthony Costello and Ball State University shared an AIA Indianapolis award with the NCMA Foundation recognizing its continued support for educational programs. NCMA Building The Board of Directors approved a plan to execute the sale of the current NCMA property and to develop a new home for the association. Thank you to our Midyear sponsors! 2

4 Call to Action WATCH The video celebrating 25 years of NCMA history from 1943 to GET CERTIFIED Through the new NCMA SRW Sales Professional Certification. The program is for hardscape sales personnel and will be offered at ICON EXPO BUY Additional cities to analyze for CMU Cost Comparison Study! ($4,000 each) PARTICIPATE By providing input into the new NCMA website development process. A plan was approved to redevelop NCMA s online presence. Look for opportunities to provide input soon. SUPPORT Julie Larson and Roger Hubeli from Aptum Architecture spoke at the NCMA Business Lunch about great opportunities to use concrete masonry in homes built by Habitat for Humanity. This project was a unique collaboration between Syracuse University School of Architecture, Habitat for Humanity and Upstate New York MCAA. READ The new resources that will be released after this meeting: White Paper on improving freeze-thaw durability of SRW units Updated 5th Edition Manufactured Stone Installation Guide Updated 4th Edition SRW Design Manual incorporating new methods for designing complex SRWs.
