International Recognition Days Highlights Generally I would put this section in another location in my newsletter, however, I wanted to highlight some of the new information that I received during Best Practices and the Sessions. 1) I have met our new President Rick Danforth and I think that although Barb Cady s shoes will be hard to do, he can do it. He wants us all to sail to KOPS Harbor, no matter the size of your boat or the type of water you are on. 2) Rick Danforth believes in a chain of command. First you need to contact your Area Captain with any questions you may have, give us an opportunity to answer the question or find the answer for you before contacting the Coordinator (Linda Wilcox), same token given Linda a chance to answer your question or find the answer before contacting the Regional Director (Deanna Bies), same token give Deanna a chance to answer the question or find the answer before contacting any board member or President Rick Danforth. As Field Staff we use the Chapter Manual 2 nd Edition to answer many of the questions and we also have a Field Staff Manual from TOPS headquarters to also assist us. 3) The motivational speaker Penny Zenker talked about Reboot, when it comes to our weight loss. We all made a positive statement about ourselves and shouted it multiple times during the session. Mine is I am a strong, committed, driven, role-model. What is your positive statement? 4) Have you considered being an Area Captain or know someone who might be interested in being an Area Captain. Missouri has many areas that could use an Area Captain and if you or someone you know is interested in the position have them contact one of our state coordinators: Linda Wilcox or Sylvia Eldridge. 5) In 2017 TOPS members (this includes KOPS) lost a total of 1,010, pounds. Congrats to all who contributed to that total. Let s keep it up as we continue to Cut and Burn with Burni during 2018.

2 July 28, 2018 from 10am to 12pm Officer s Training: All members are welcome to attend. Come hear the highlights from the Best Practices Training, come and view the new My Day One, come and hear some ideas to perform the position for which you were elected to. This training is free, but SRD items will be available for sale. September 29, 2018 from 10am to 2pm Fall Rally. The theme is Once Upon a Time. Registration packets will be available at the Officer s Training or will be sent to the leaders for the chapters that don t attend. Both events take place at the Callaway Electric Cooperative Community Room in Fulton, MO. The address is 1313 Cooperative Dr., Fulton, MO 65251

I hope that you have been working on the contest and that each chapter has had fun in being creative to get their members interested in working on the categories. I ll be sending the registration form shortly. Chapters will be able to have table space if you are interested in raffling a basket or selling other items for your chapters SRD fund. I am asking chapters to bring a centerpiece for the tables decorated in this year s theme of Once Upon a Time which is a precursor to the 2019 SRD theme of Fairy Tales Do Come True. I will be having the 50/50 raffle and also I will be raffling off 2 KOPS shirts that I got at IRD. The cost for the 50/50 raffle will be a $1 a ticket or an arm s length for $5.00. The KOPS T-Shirt raffle will be $1 a ticket or 6 chances for $5.00. Also the SRD Promo items will be available for sale, the prices are listed in the box above.

5 Final Thought At IRD I saw and heard many success stories and they were truly powerful. Check out the October issue of TOPS News for the IRD special and check out the TOPS website to see the currently crowned royalty and read their stories. But with the successes, I also saw a TOPS member who in the past had lost over 100 pounds and was active when I saw her last a year or two ago. However, this year she has gained a lot of weight back and needed the aid of an electric wheelchair to get around. Although I was battling a torn meniscus, I was able to manage to walk to and from the convention center, only taking a cab twice coming back from the convention center. Seeing her made me realize that I must definitely keep moving after I have been cleared by the doctor so that I will not need a mobility device in the near future. That is my biggest fear that I will need a device to get around, I do not want that and will continue to do everything in my power to move and lose weight so that is not anything that I need anytime soon. My mantra for July/August is You may not have written it down, but your body did. Barb Cady
