1 Classic GTO Association of Denver An affiliated chapter of the GTO Association of America By Shar Jung On Saturday, March 15th, the Club had an outing at the Brunswick Zone in Wheat Ridge. We had 12 people show up to bowl or just to hang out with the group, and it seemed to be a fun evening for all. I do believe we had an outstanding 200 game from one of our members! I did not bowl, but I did a lot of talking, laughing, and taking pictures of the members doing their best at bowling. Thanks to everyone who came out, and also thanks to Rich Cikowski and Mike Mikutis for setting up this event. Also, thanks to new member Chris Jones, who attended with Al Skach for this fun night of bowling. Continued on page 4

You can print the newsletters from the web site. MEMBERSHIP DUES The CGTOAD membership dues are $30.00 per year. This includes one primary and one associate membership. Annual dues are payable in June for the period of July through the following June. New member fees will be prorated if a member joins in a month other than June. To obtain a membership application, visit the club s web site or call the CGTOAD Hotline ( ) and leave a message. 3 Page 3 Joanne Cikowski Notes from the March 22 Membership Meeting The Member Meeting was held at Fox Hollow Golf Club. There were 21 members and friends attending. Sharlene had all the members introduce themselves. Rich Cikowski read the Secretary s Notes from the February meeting, and Sara Garvais read the Treasurer s Report. Rich elaborated on the planned detail tech session, which is still tentative awaiting a response from either Adams or Mother s Polishes. Shar received the approval of attending members to donate $ to the Wounded Warriors organization and will present the check to honorary member, Denny Deal, on the trip to Tucson in April. Denny has been coordinating some GTO club donations. We are requesting volunteers for the 2 nd annual Auto Auction on 7/25/14. We are currently pursuing other events, including a trip to Grand Junction in August. We would visit the Gateway Auto Museum and possibly attend a car show in Grand Junction. We are also looking into visits to the Cussler Museum and the Mitchell Museum. Event dates discussed: 3/29/14 Lincoln Tech Hot Rod Show, E. 48 th Ave. Denver 9:00-2:00. The registration deadline is 3/26. 4/5/14 Colorado School of Mines Car Show in Golden. 4/5/14 Northern Club bowling outing at Sweetheart Lanes, 2320 N. Lincoln, Loveland, CO 4/10 thru 4/14 Road Trip to Tucson. Contact Rich or Shar for more info. 4/12/14 2 nd annual Bumpers, Flippers car show. George Racz is helping to organize this event. It (Rain Date is at Arapahoe and Clinton at the Sheraton Hotel. Three awards will be given out and an date is 4/13) admission allows one to play all the pinball machines. 4/26/14 Member Meeting at Fox Hollow Golf Club, 10:00 am, just off Morrison Rd. between C-470 and Kipling. 5/2/14 First Club Clash at Bandimere Speedway. 5/3/14 Golden Cruise. 5/7/14 Board Meeting. 5/17/14 Tentative Tech Session on detailing vehicles. 5/17/14 Possible alternative Poker Run sponsored by the Camaro Club starting in Lyons, CO and ending at Fun City in Littleton. More to come on this if we decide to attend as a group. 6/14/14 Highland Ranch Hot Rodders car show at Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Blvd. in Highlands Ranch. 10:00-2:00, parking begins at 8:00 am. 6/20/14 Club Clash. 6/25/14 Member Meeting at Fox Hollow Golf Club. 7/1/14 Start of the GTOAA Nationals in Pittsburgh. 7/9/14 Board Meeting. 7/25/14 Car Auction (details to follow). 8/16/14 Annual Club picnic at the Bennett home of members John and Amy Gallagher. We may also attend the Air and Car Show that day at the Front Range Airport.

5 Page 5 By John Lawrence Several weeks ago we received a phone message on our Club Hotline. A man asked if there was somebody in the Club who owned a 68 GTO and would be willing to help celebrate his father s 70th birthday. The man, whose name is Ryan, lives out of state, but his father lives here in Broomfield. Ryan left his contact info, and his request was distributed among our members. I contacted Ryan to get the details. I learned that Ryan s father, Rick, bought a GTO new in 1968, and he often expressed regret that he hadn t kept it. Rick let it be known that he wished he could get a ride in a 68 GTO during his 70th birthday celebration. I volunteered to drive my 68 up to Broomfield when all the family was gathered for the birthday party, and Ryan said he would keep this plan a secret in order to surprise Rick. So, on Thursday, March 20, I drove my GTO to Broomfield, arriving at Rick s home exactly at noon, as had been agreed upon. Rick was brought outside, and I will never forget the look on his face when he saw my goat in his driveway! After everybody was introduced and we all took photos, the temperature had warmed nicely so I dropped the top and handed Rick the keys so we could go for a cruise. Son Ryan jumped into the back seat and I sat shotgun. Rick piloted my goat around the area for a half hour or so, shifting the Muncie 4-speed and controlling the big 455 as though the car was his daily driver. Then we returned to his home and everyone had a few more laughs before I backed the car into the street, laid down 30 or 40 feet of smoking-tire rubber, then headed back to Denver.

6 Page 6 Here is the Fox Hollow Golf Club clubhouse, our new venue for monthly Membership Meetings. The dining room we reserve is cozy and nicely decorated. The food offerings are diverse, the quality is great, and the prices are very affordable. Our members should be quite pleased with this venue, as were all those who attended the meeting on March 22!
