1 G C S M P S l i n k M a y e - n e w s From the President Over the past eight months, I ve encouraged each of you to EXPLORE the opportunities SMPS has to offer. I am pleased to report that a healthy 60% of our members are actively engaged in our chapter. The Board has actively engaged all of our new members and also reached out to many current members. Some of the highlights include: Of our 11 new members for the program year, six are currently involved in chapter activities. Of our 25 new members for the program year, 19 are currently involved in chapter activities. We heavily engaged past leaders on the Gala Committee. Past chapter leaders are helping plan the event and helped develop criteria for the newly-created Trailblazer Award. Past Presidents/Veteran Members volunteered at the new member orientation and also as presenters at the Education Series on the Six Domains of Practice. 2 Upcoming Events May Program: Horseshoe Casino Tour & Happy Hour Thursday, May 15, 2013 Registration: 3:30pm Tour: 3:45 Happy Hour & Networking to Follow Tour Horseshoe Casino, 1000 Broadway St., Cincinnati, OH Join Greater Cincinnati SMPS for a tour of the new Horseshoe Casino in downtown Cincinnati on May 15, The legendary non-stop gaming action at Cincinnati's first casino includes 2,000 slot machines, 85 table games and a 31- table World Series of Poker room. The 400,000 square foot, two-story casino also offers multi-purpose and special function space, an outdoor event plaza and a 2,500-space parking structure, as well as a multitude of dining options including Jimmy Buffett s Margaritaville, Jack Binion s Steak and Bobby s Burger Palace. Following the tour we will have happy hour and networking including light hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar (one drink ticket includedd with your registration). Education Series: Six Domains of Practice Greater Cincinnati SMPS presents a six-part education series based on the six domains of practice. Each program will be presented by a veteran SMPS member knowing the ins and outs specific to the A/E/C industry as well as an outsider who has implemented marketing campaigns pertaining to each of the six domains. This provides interesting insight on how our marketing worlds differ and overlap in specific areas and opens both parties to new ideas on how to approach the various topics. The event, hosted by Ron Worth, CEO of SMPS, will welcome a keynote address by City Manager, Milton Dohoney, Jr. Awards will be presented for the Marketer of the Year and the Flying Pig. Additional recognition will be given to industry trailblazers and firms in the Cincinnati A/E/C industry. Protégé: Jackie Kraemer, Business Development Assistant, Turner Construction Company After being matched up in GCSMPS Ambassador/Protégé mentoring program, Andrea Pakulski and Jackie Kraemer met for the first time in September at our monthly luncheon series. One of their first discoveries was an interesting coincidence: their parents both live in Finneytown, so they immediate found common ground that sparked conversation. Andrea and Jackie hit it off from this initial meeting and have made time to connect throughout the year despite busy schedules. Reflecting on this past several months, Andrea said, The best part of getting to know Jackie is that I completely see myself in her. She is experiencing everything I experienced six years ago when I was in her position. I have been doing my best to remember what it was like to be new in the industry and how I got past those challenges and became a better marketer. Jackie is very grateful for the Ambassador/Protégé relationship. I want to thank Andrea for being such a fabulous mentor. She is strong, confident, and a super mom and marketer! And she does it all with a huge smile on her face. I am so glad that I was given a chance to
