2 COMMITTEE S INVITATION COMMITTEE S INVITATION Dear Colleagues, The RANZCO Queensland Branch Annual Scientific Meeting Organising Committee extends to you a warm invitation to our 2018 meeting. This year s meeting will focus on recent advances in optics and outcomes in cataract and corneal disease. We have been fortunate to secure two renowned international speakers. Dr Albert Jun, Professor and Chief of Cornea and Cataract Service at Wilmer Eye Institute, Baltimore and Dr Jod Mehta, Chief of the Corneal Service and Senior Consultant in the Refractive Service of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Associate Professor with DUKE-NUS GMS. Interstate speakers Dr Ben Connell and Dr Elsie Chan are also presenting, with other speakers to be confirmed. In addition, there will be significant local contributions from Prof Michael Collins and Mr John Mountford as well as local subspecialists. A number of respected local and interstate speakers are also contributing to the program. A comprehensive preliminary program including segments on corneal and cataract imaging, audit outcomes and machine learning, as well as evolving management strategies for Fuch s corneal endothelial dystrophy, keratoconus and axial myopia have been tabled. The meeting will offer ample time for interactive discussions, presenting interesting case discussions and formal topic debate as well as being a great opportunity to catch up with friends and enjoy the warm Queensland sunshine on the Gold Coast. Separate Satellite breakfast meetings on the Friday and Saturday mornings will also be running, thanks to our corporate sponsors, and as with last year it will prove important to get in early to avoid disappointment. 3 INVITED GUEST SPEAKERS JOD MEHTA Jod S. Mehta is Head of the Corneal Service and Senior Consultant in the Refractive Service of the Singapore National Eye Center (SNEC) and Assoc Professor with DUKE-NUS GMS. Has trained 18 international fellows, five masters students and six PhD students. Dr Mehta leads a clinical service and runs a research program comprising of clinical and translational studies focused on corneal transplantation, femtosecond laser technology, corneal imaging, corneal infections, corneal refractive surgery, keratoprosthesis and corneal genetics. He has published >290 peer-reviewed papers and 14 book chapters. He has given >100 invited plenary, symposium and named lectures globally. His research work as generated 15 patents, four of which have been licensed to companies. He is a member of Executive Committee of ISRS (AAO), the board of Directors of the Corneal Society (USA) and was part of the TFOS panel for DEWS 2. ALBERT JUN Albert S. Jun, MD, PhD, is the Maurice E. Langham, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology and chief of the Division of Cornea, Cataract, and External Eye Diseases at the Wilmer Eye Institute-Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr Jun s clinical and research interests include keratoplasty, genetic analysis of corneal diseases, and corneal cell and gene therapy. Dr Jun has received grants and awards from numerous organisations including the US National Institutes of Health, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation, the Eye Bank Association of America, and the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology. Dr Jun received his AB degree in biochemistry from Harvard University. He received his medical degree and his PhD in genetics and molecular biology from Emory University. He completed residency and served as chief resident in ophthalmology at Wilmer. Thereafter, he completed a cornea and external disease fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a Maumenee Clinician-Scientist Fellowship at the Wilmer Institute. 6 GENERAL INFORMATION CALL FOR ABSTRACTS QRANZCO organising committee invites members to submit a poster on any topic they might feel fits with the conference theme. Posters presented by students, pre-registration house officers, registrars under the supervision of members or members themselves are all welcome and a designated best in show will be awarded by our key speakers on the Saturday after the debate. Poster dimensions are 48" x 36" in landscape orientation (horizontal). A0 in landscape will also be acceptable. The format will be flexible but abstract outline as a 250 word abstract broken into title, background, methods, results and conclusion is preferred. This 5-star hotel has everything you d expect in luxury and leisure. The Resort has a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned gymnasium and exercise room and a 25-meter lap pool. Play a match on one of four tennis courts, two of which are floodlit. The resort is surrounded by lush tropical gardens and blue lagoons and you can dine at one of five award-winning restaurants and bars. ACCOMMODATION The Sheraton Grand Mirage resort has offered attractive rates for delegates of this conference and will extend this rate for extra days either side of the conference. The room rate is $ per room, per night (two people). Please note: Rooms must be booked using the registration form only. The hotel will not take direct bookings for this conference. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment as the number of rooms available to the conference is limited. Reserved rooms will only be held until 18:00 on the day of arrival unless prior notice is given by indicating on the registration form, or by contacting the hotel direct. Hotel cancellation policies apply. Quoted room rates are not subject to GST. PARKING Parking for guests is free of charge under the resort and for day delegates is subject to availability. CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS & DISCLAIMER Registration cancellations received in writing before 2 July 2018 will attract an administration charge of $150. After that date there will be no refunds. Registrations can, however, be transferred within an organisation if the secretariat is advised in writing. The information contained in this brochure is correct at the time of going to print. The committee and/or organisers reserve the right to change without notice any part of the program and the speakers. CLIMATE Winter on the Gold coast ranges from degrees. Jackets are recommended at night. DIETARY REQUIREMENTS We will endeavour to accommodate special dietary needs. Please indicate on the registration form if you require special meals i.e. vegan, vegetarian. Also advise if you have an allergy to any foods or preparations. Please note: This is for dietary requirements only, not preferences. Some special foods will incur a surcharge if they have to be ordered specially, which will be passed on to the delegate.

7 REGISTRATION INFORMATION DRESS The dress for the conference is smart casual, ties are not necessary. Dress for the conference dinner is after 5, jackets required for gentlemen. GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) GST is included in all prices, except accommodation. The registration form, once completed, is considered a tax invoice and complies with all government requirements. INSURANCE Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. Registrants and exhibitors are strongly advised that at the time you register for the conference and book your travel (if applicable) you arrange health and travel insurance of your choice. The policy should include loss of fees/deposits through cancellation of your participation in the conference, or through cancellation of the conference, loss of international/ domestic air fares through cancellation for any reason, including airline or related services strikes within Australia, failure to utilise tours/transfers or pre-booked arrangements due to airline delay, Force Majeure or any other reason, medical expenses (including sickness and accident cover), loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. The committee and conference managers cannot take any responsibility for any participant failing to arrange their own insurance and will not accept any liability for loss or injury.
