5 Tem Profile: I Love Lucy Tem I Love Lucy hs prticipted in the DSAW Down Syndrome Awreness Wlk for the lst 8 yers. Lst yer, the tem hd lmost 40 wlk prticipnts nd rised over $4,000! We st down with Sr Tiklsky, mom to Lucy nd tem cptin, to sk more bout her experience with the Down Syndrome Awreness Wlks. How did you get involved with DSAW nd the Down Syndrome Awreness Wlk? We got involved with DSAW nd ttended our first Down Syndrome Awreness wlk when our dughter Lucy ws 11 months old. We hve since ttended mny other DSAW events. Our strt with DSAW ws slow, but we hve enjoyed growing with DSAW over the yers. Wht does the wlk men to you nd your fmily? The DSAW wlk is dy tht is focused on celebrting Lucy nd other individuls with Down Syndrome. Our closest friends nd fmily join us for the dy or the whole weekend. We love to spend time together during the wlk just enjoying ech other's compny. Lucy knows it is her specil dy (she's 8 now) nd looks forwrd to it. Our tem nme is I Love Lucy nd we ll wer our tem shirts for the dy. We love coming together for this event; our fmily comes nd celebrtes the whole weekend with us, it's become fmily reunion! As prents of child with DS, we love seeing other fmilies we hve gotten to know through other DSAW progrmming through the yers. For Lucy, she likes to see friends she hs mde through other DSAW events. Wht dvice would you give to those who re bout to ttend their first wlk? Our dvice would be to invite your fmily nd friends to join you. The wlk is such fmily friendly event! Another piece of dvice: get there erly nd get picnic tble nd hng out with your fmily nd friends, or get to know someone new. Enjoy the time together! We hve been slow to invite people to the wlk nd donte money, but we hve been blown wy by the support of those fmily nd friends round us. Just sk! If you need to pick up your shirts the morning of the wlk, only the tem cptin should check in t registrtion. However, EVERYONE who registered fter the gurnteed t-shirt dedline of August 31 will need to check in t registrtion, even if they re on your tem. When should we rrive t the Wlk?
