3 Counsellor Victoria Part Time, Fixed Term (12 Month Contract) 0.6 FTE (3 days per week) We are currently looking for a Counsellor who will be responsible for the deliery of counselling serices across our Victoria Diision. As a counsellor you will be responsible for the deliery of counselling serices for all young people affected by cancer, in both indiidual and group format. In addition, you will proide the counselling serices in the specified location and be responsible for the promotion of the serice both within CanTeen and with releant local stakeholders. The position is based in the Melbourne office; howeer, outreach days in different Melbourne locations will be required. The counsellor also plays an integral role within the Melbourne Diision team and may assist with the design of psychosocial sessions for camps, and attend a small number of these per year. While the role is predominantly face to face, the Diision supports young people across Victoria and the counsellor will engage in counselling ia a range of mediums including ia the Online Support Platform (telephone, chat based and support). We are looking for a highly motiated team player with an ability to moe projects forward with independence and autonomy. You will hae a minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling serice using a number of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, IPT, ACT, narratie and solution focused approaches. You will be adaptable to change and hae experience in a ariety of interentions including indiidual counselling and group facilitation. You will also hae the ability to prepare and present information in a clear and logical way, and delier this information appropriately to target groups. The ideal candidate will hae proen experience working with young people and young adults and also experience in grief and loss counselling. Strong planning, time management and experience in the oncology and/or haematology sector is highly desirable. 4 Reports to: Diision Manager Victoria Positions reporting into this one: None Key working relationships: Psychosocial Support Workers (PSW s), Programs Officers, Diision Managers, Online Support Platform Manager, CanTeen Counsellors, Director of Psychosocial Serices, CanTeen Members, other serice proiders. Proision Of Counselling Assess young people in line with CanTeen s Psychosocial Model, including proiding intake, assessment, indiidual support planning and periodic reiews at defined interals. Design and delier group counselling actiities and workshops. Ensure that referrals are made to suitable resources within the local health and non-healthrelated networks, liaising with family when appropriate. Delier counselling serices to young people affected by cancer ia indiidual and/or group based interentions; this will primarily inole in-person counselling but will also include some online and telephone counselling and occasional work with the Canteen Online Support Serice ( , IM and phone counselling). Operate within Canteen s preferred models of serice deliery and/or models endorsed by the Director of Psychosocial Support or the Clinical Goernance Committee. Intake, assessment and referral Proide an intake and initial assessment serice for young people referred to CanTeen. Conduct initial brief assessments and refer young people to other teams within CanTeen and externally. Be responsible for responding to enquiries from families, health and education professionals and others including friends and partners of YPLWC. Serice Promotion Be responsible for the promotion of the counselling serices in the Diision and external to CanTeen. Promote CanTeen s serices oerall, with an awareness of fundraising needs. Actiely liaise with health, school and community sectors and act as an adocate and educator in the needs of young people liing with cancer.

5 Online Support Platform Be responsible for the deliery of a multifaceted online and telephone counselling serice combined with oersight of the peer-to-peer support enironment. Engage with CanTeen members ia telephone, chat and , as well as ia forums, blogs/ real life stories, webinars and e-learning programs. Identify trends and community need(s) to inform the deelopment of professionally-led discussions, groups, e-learning and psycho-educational programs, as well as some testing and monitoring of the website and associated software. Best Practice: Keep up to date on new areas of best practice, clinical guidelines, and professional requirements. Attend regular professional group superision proided by CanTeen and other appropriate courses for professional deelopment as agreed with direct line manager Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in a releant discipline such as psychology, social work or counselling. Eligibility for membership to the releant professional board such as the APS, AASW or PACFA Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) Knowledge/Skills/Experience Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling serice using a number of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, IPT, ACT, narratie and solution focussed approaches. Experience in a ariety of interentions including indiidual counselling and group facilitation. Proen experience and fluency with using web based technology, including: chat/instant messaging, , telephone systems, websites, SMS, and client management systems. Excellent administration, reporting and computer skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience working with young people and young adults. Experience in grief and loss counselling. Ability to prepare and present information in a clear and logical way, and to delier this information appropriately to target groups. Strong planning, time management and organisational skills, including ability to take initiatie where appropriate. Strong networking skills that include the ability to build strong inter-agency networks Confidence in presenting. Desirable Experience in the oncology and/or haematology sector Experience conducting counselling with families and parents.

6 Standard hours worked are between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. Some weekend or eening work may be required for staff deelopment eents and deliery of counselling workshops/groups. CanTeen does hae a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leae when hours in excess of the standard working week are worked. As CanTeen s work inoles employees being in direct contact with children and young people, employees are required to complete police and working with children checks, releant to the State in which they will be employed. CanTeen will conduct at least two reference checks on successful applicants, and may also require proof of any professional qualifications stated on an application.
