3 Counsellor Queensland 3 days per week Part time, Fixed Term maternity leae Contract 3 days per week. We are looking for a Counsellor to work in our Queensland Diision on a part time basis. As a counsellor you will be responsible for the deliery of counselling serices for all young people affected by cancer, in both indiidual and group format. You will proide counselling serices in Queensland and will be responsible for the promotion of the serice both within CanTeen and with releant stakeholders. The position is based in the Brisbane Office; howeer outreach days in different locations may be required. The counsellor also plays an integral role within the Brisbane team and may assist with the design of psychosocial sessions for oernight programs or other therapeutic group sessions. While the role is predominantly face to face, we support young people across Queensland and the counsellor will engage in counselling ia a range of mediums including ia the Online Support Platform (telephone, chat based and support). We are looking for a highly motiated team player with a passion and drie to work CanTeen and to make a difference to young people's lies. You will hae a releant tertiary qualifications within psychology, social work or counselling. You will hae a minimum 2 years post qualifying experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling serice using a number of eidence based interentions (CBT, IPT, ACT, Narratie etc.) You will be adaptable to change and hae experience in deliering a ariety of interentions including indiidual counselling and group facilitation. Additionally you will also hae experience and fluency with using web based technology, including: chat/instant messaging, , telephone systems, SMS, and client management systems. The ideal candidate will hae proen experience in working with young people and experience in grief and loss counselling. 4 Reports to: State Manager Queensland Positions reporting into this one: None Key working relationships: Psychosocial Support Workers (PSW s), Programs Officers, Diision Managers, Online Support Platform Manager, CanTeen Counsellors, Director of Psychosocial Serices, CanTeen Members, other serice proiders. Proision of counselling The Counsellor will be responsible for assessing the needs and deliering counselling to young people affected by cancer ia group and indiidual counselling within CanTeen s framework for indiidual support. The counsellor will both design and delier group counselling actiities and workshops. This will primarily inole face to face counselling and will also include some online and telephone counselling, as well as occasional work with the Online Support Platform counselling serice. Intake, assessment and referral: The Counsellor will be responsible for proiding an intake and initial assessment serice for young people referred to CanTeen, conducting initial brief assessments and referring young people to other teams within CanTeen and externally. They will also be responsible for responding to enquiries from families, health and education professionals and others including friends and partners of YPLWC. Serice promotion: The Counsellor will be responsible for the promotion of the counselling serices in the Diision and external to CanTeen. They will also be responsible for promoting CanTeen s serices oerall, with awareness of fundraising needs. They will actiely liaise with health, school and community sectors and act as an adocate and educator in the needs of young people liing with cancer. Best Practice: The Counsellor will keep abreast of new areas of best practice, clinical guidelines, and professional requirements. They will attend regular professional group superision proided by CanTeen and attend appropriate courses for professional deelopment as agreed with the diision manager. Online Support Platform: CanTeen s Online Support program is an online and telephone counselling serice. The web platform aims to support CanTeen members and all young people affected by cancer, to reduce distress, reduce isolation and improe mental health outcomes. This position is responsible for the deliery of a multifaceted online and telephone counselling serice combined with oersight of the peer-to-peer support enironment. Counsellors will engage with CanTeen members ia telephone, chat and , as well as ia forums, blogs/ real life stories, webinars and e-learning programs.

5 Counsellors will be instrumental in identifying trends and community need(s) to inform deelopment of professionally-led discussions, groups, e-learning and psycho-educational programs, as well as some testing and monitoring of the website and associated software. As this is a relatiely new serice with national coerage, the role will be inoled in internal and external program promotion and networking. Key Performance Indicators: High quality counselling serice deliery to young people affected by cancer in line with identified targets for the Victoria Diision Effectie integration of counselling serices within the Diision team. Adherence to CanTeen counselling and Indiidual Support guidelines. Strong networks and relationship with appropriate serice proiders and referrers. Promotional actiities, presentations and relationship management with key internal and external stakeholders Engagement with superision and program best practice guidelines Adherence to CanTeen s Clinical Goernance framework, and practice within releant professional and ethical standards. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in a releant discipline such as psychology, social work or counselling. Eligibility for membership to the releant professional board such as the APS, AASW or PACFA Knowledge/Skills/Experience Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling serice using a number of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, IPT, ACT, narratie and solution focussed approaches. Experience in a ariety of interentions including indiidual counselling and group facilitation Proen experience and fluency with using web based technology, including: chat/instant messaging, , telephone systems, websites, SMS, and client management systems Excellent administration, reporting and computer skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Experience working with young people and young adults Experience in grief and loss counselling Ability to prepare and present information in a clear and logical way, and to delier this information appropriately to target groups Strong planning, time management and organisational skills, including ability to take initiatie where appropriate. Strong networking skills that include the ability to build strong inter-agency networks Confidence in presenting Desirable Experience in the oncology and/or haematology sector Experience in working with adolescents, young adults and families affected by a lifethreatening illness.

6 Standard hours worked are between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. Some weekend work will be required for staff deelopment eents, deliery of counselling workshops/groups and attendance at camps, for which you will be gien time off in lieu as per policy. Serice demand by young people will require regular work outside of regular business hours. As CanTeen s work inoles employees being in direct contact with children and young people, employees are required to complete police and working with children checks, releant to the State in which they will be employed. CanTeen will conduct at least two reference checks on successful applicants, and may also require proof of any professional qualifications stated on an application.
