1 COMMUNICATIONS AND AWARENESS MANAGER OVARIAN CANCER AUSTRALIA Contribute to our vision of saving lives and ensuring no woman with ovarian cancer walks alone National role Location: Melbourne CBD Position reports to: Head, Communications and Awareness Position type: Full-time (38 hours per week) Direct reports: None Background This exciting and diverse role is responsible for developing and delivering communications, marketing and branding activity for this national women s cancer charity. Combining both strategic and hands on skills, this is an opportunity for a savvy, results-orientated communications and marketing professional to make their mark. Based in the national office in Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, you will work across the organisation to support fundraising and awareness campaigns, market the organisation s products and services and ensure that the organisation s branding is consistent and well recognised. You will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of major marketing and communications projects, ensuring organisational objectives are met including that the public, health professionals and government know ovarian cancer ; that Ovarian Cancer Australia becomes the go-to place for ovarian cancer information; and that women affected by ovarian cancer and gynaecological health professionals are aware of the role of, and the services offered by, Ovarian Cancer Australia. You will lead internal and external communications across all media platforms and work across the organisation communicating with patients, carers, clinicians, health service managers, government, supporters and donors. You will have energy, passion and a demonstrated ability to manage the demands of this fast-paced and broad role including: Brand management Website and collateral management Media management, including social media Developing and delivering major communications and marketing campaigns Ambassador program management 1 POSITION DESCRIPTION: COMMUNICATIONS AND AWARENESS MANAGER last reviewed 19 June 2017

Your excellent project management, organisational skills and ability to negotiate confidently with multiple stakeholders and suppliers will see you get the job done efficiently, on budget and to the highest standard. About Ovarian Cancer Australia Ovarian Cancer Australia is the independent national organisation for ovarian cancer in Australia. We were founded in 2001 by a group of people who were personally affected by ovarian cancer, either themselves or through someone that they loved. Our one-page strategic plan summary is attached for reference. Our vision is to save lives and ensure that no woman with ovarian cancer walks alone. We work to ensure that: Women with ovarian cancer have a strong voice. Every Australian knows the symptoms and risks of ovarian cancer. All women with ovarian cancer have access to best practice diagnosis, treatment, information and support. A vibrant and growing national ovarian cancer research effort in Australia informs practice and translates into improved quality of life and survival for women. Our values are: We listen We are inclusive We are courageous We act with integrity For more information please visit Key Responsibilities Develop and manage Ovarian Cancer Australia s communications, awareness and marketing strategy Manage the implementation of the communications and marketing strategy to guide Ovarian Cancer Australia s promotional activities (internal and external) across all media. 3 Develop, implement and evaluate a marketing plan for Ovarian Cancer Australia s products and services. Develop and manage Ovarian Cancer Australia s awareness campaigns Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of awareness campaigns, including Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month annually (February). Develop key messages that are evidence-based and routinely reviewed, working with the organisation s leadership team, as required. Coordinate awareness and stakeholder events such as the Teal Ribbon Day Breakfast at Parliament House, Canberra. Oversee the design and content of publications, both in print and online. Media & communications Manage the relationship with Ovarian Cancer Australia s external public relations agency to develop key campaigns that have high impact and reach. Identify public relations opportunities and provide advice to the CEO and management team. Oversee development of the website, supporter communications and publications to ensure they are current, relevant, targeted and on brand. Manage the social media strategy and delivery, and monitor its impact. Guide the use of promotional materials and events (including merchandise) for fundraising (through sales and incentives) and awareness raising. Ensure that spokespeople are well briefed, with the capacity to represent Ovarian Cancer Australia in the media and in other forums. Stakeholder relationships Provide advice and input into the Fundraising, Marketing & Development Board Committee. Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts to raise Ovarian Cancer Australia s profile and promote our programs. Manage the ambassador program to ensure it aligns with the communications and marketing strategy. Work with GM, Finance and Operations to develop volunteer roles that will assist in the delivery of communications and awareness programs. 4 Conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation to measure the impact of Ovarian Cancer Australia s communications and awareness strategies and to inform reporting and ongoing program development. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the communications field and a working knowledge of ovarian cancer relevant to the role. General Provide guidance, support, leadership and manage the performance of direct reports. Contribute to the development of Ovarian Cancer Australia strategy and planning. Contribute to the culture of decision making including cooperation, collaboration and shared accountability. Contribute to evaluation and data collection as relevant to areas of responsibility and provide information for routine and ad hoc reporting purposes. Other duties as directed. Experience, skills and qualifications Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing or related field years experience in marketing or communications (preferably in the not-for-profit / health sector). Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills. Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders. Key selection criteria 1. Experience managing communications campaigns to achieve targets; 2. Highly developed written communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to suit different communications media and audiences; 3. Experience in managing brand identity; 4. Experience using a range of digital media, including websites and social media platforms, to achieve communications goals; 5. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders; 6. Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills; 7. Demonstrated project management experience and ability to manage deadlines; 8.
