1 EW N R FO! LONDON TO AMSTERDAM JUNE Cycle 360 miles over 4 days through beautiful English villages and into Europe, passing through historic Bruges and Breda before finishing in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Whether you re an experienced rider or a complete beginner, you will find other cyclists at your level, make friends for life and go on an incredible adventure which will stay with you forever. COME CYCLE WITH US IN PARTNERSHIP WITH Teenage Cancer Trust is a registered charity: (England & Wales); SC (Scotland)
2 THE ITINERARY DAY 1 DAY 3 London to Calais Our challenge begins bright and early from London heading south towards the coast. The route winds through the beautiful Kent countryside before we reach the famous white cliffs of Dover. From here we catch the ferry to Calais for our first overnight stop. 94 miles (approx) Bruges to Breda Today we will be tackling our longest ride of the trip so will begin with an early start! The Dutch landscape will provide us with a smoother ride as we pedal away from Bruges and wind our way down through charming countryside towards Breda. 96 miles (approx) DAY 2 DAY 4 Calais to Bruges After a hearty French breakfast, we head out for a slightly easier day on two wheels! The relatively flat route follows the coast through the Belgian border along tree-lined country lanes and canals before turning inland toward our evening s destination of Bruges this fairy-tale town is filled with cobbled streets and medieval buildings, a picture-perfect end to day two! 80 miles (approx) Breda to Amsterdam We have a long ride ahead of us for our last day in the saddle. Taking on a flatter route we ll pass the canals, blossoming tulips and windmills synonymous with the Netherlands, which lead us towards the bright lights of Amsterdam where cycling is the way of life! This wonderful city is a hub of art, history, hidden gems and stunning sites what a finish line! 90 miles (approx) DAY 5 Amsterdam to London Today you re free to explore the wonders of Amsterdam, take in the culture and enjoy all the city has to offer, be it a museum a or enjoying a well-earned drink in the sun! You ll then catch a coach to Brussels before transferring to the Eurostar to return to London. Due to the nature of the challenge, this complex itinerary is subject to change.
3 FACTS & FIGURES REGISTRATION FEE: TEMPERATURE: A registration fee of 125 is required to secure your booking. (1) It can reach up to 20oC during the day with plenty of sunshine and blue skies, but do be prepared for cooler temperatures and showers. If you raise 80% of this 12 weeks before the event (that s 1,280), we ll pay for the cost of your challenge. (2) Alternatively, if you would like to self fund and pay the challenge costs yourself, let us know. NO. OF DAYS: 5 days (4 days cycling). ACCOMMODATION: 2 3 star hotels. We set off together and finished together and had a lot of fun in between. 4 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS IS THE TRIP FOR ME? WHAT ABOUT FOOD AND DRINK? Definitely! This is a fantastic challenge for anyone wanting to do something amazing to support young people with cancer. There will be lots of like minded people on the trip all looking for the challenge of a lifetime and of course to meet new friends. Some people come with friends or family but most come on their own. So what are you waiting for? Sign up today for a fantastic experience and the opportunity to make life long friends. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided throughout the trip except for 2 meals (dinner on the ferry on the way out to France and lunch in Amsterdam on our last day). We can of course cater for vegetarians and other dietary requirements as long as you let us know in advance. HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE? No specialist kit is required, however a cycle helmet is compulsory and we strongly recommend that you use your own bike for both your training and the cycle itself. People from all walks of life will take part in this challenge and most people will be exactly like you. Riders are encouraged to take the ride at their own pace, and there will be a support team on hand throughout the challenge - however it s vital that you train so that you get the most out of the cycle ride. You ll get a suggested training plan and we ll be on hand to help you with any training advice. WILL I BE ABLE TO RAISE THE SPONSORSHIP MONEY? Yes! Once you ve started, you ll find that raising the minimum sponsorship is easy and most importantly fun! We ll send you a fundraising pack and will of course be on hand to help you with even more ideas. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? WILL YOU CARRY MY LUGGAGE WHILST I M CYCLING? There will be support vehicles with the group at all times, which will also carry your luggage. You ll need to bring a bum bag for any essentials like your phone or sun tan lotion. WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY PLACE ON THE TRIP? As soon as possible! Places are limited and get snapped up quickly, so to avoid disappointment sign up today and don t miss out! WILL YOU HELP ME? Yes! As well as the team here at Teenage Cancer Trust, you ll have a contact at Skyline Events (who run the trip) to help you in the lead up to the event. You ll be sent access to a full confirmation site shortly after you register which will give you all the information you need, but we re always here to make the event as enjoyable and hassle free as possible! It s been an awesome life-changing experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Don t think about it, do it! Andrew participant
5 TEENAGE CANCER TRUST YOUNG PEOPLE WITH CANCER NEED SPECIALISED NURSING AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. TEENAGE CANCER TRUST IS THE ONLY UK CHARITY MEETING THIS CRITICAL NEED. Right now, we can only help half of young people with cancer with our world-leading nursing. Take on London to Amsterdam 2019 and together, we can make sure every young person with cancer gets the care they deserve. We need your support to maintain our 28 outstanding Teenage Cancer Trust Wards (units) in every major hospital (Principal Treatment Centres) across the UK and fund specialist nursing staff who help run them. We need to fund our outreach nursing and support service that will provide support to young people not accessing one of our Wards. This service reaches young people who live further away from our wards, providing support in their local hospital or at home. We re also exploring other ways to reach more young people, such as through our popular support events and improving our digital support services. SO DON T DOUBT IT, BY JOINING OUR #LEGENDS2AMSTERDAM TEAM YOU WILL HELP US REACH FURTHER AND TRANSFORM MORE YOUNG PEOPLE S LIVES. FOREVER. Without Teenage Cancer Trust s specialist support young people risk facing cancer isolated and alone, not accessing the specialist emotional support and care they need through their cancer journey. Teenage Cancer Trust relies 100% on voluntary donations to protect and grow these vital services for young people. For more information Visit: challenges@teenagecancertrust.org Call:
