1 CE-10LW-CKV13 CHECK ENCLOSED
2 LTg-CKV13 Their lives have been forever changed while serving our Country Dear Fellow American, If you were to cash the enclosed $2.00 check, you may be able to buy a cup of coffee-or perhaps a newspaper. It s a real check! It s pocket change to you and me, but it means a whole lot more to some very special Americans. Our veterans have given so much in service to our country and ask nothing in return, so I am asking for them! I am counting on you to send this check back to me because ANY gift-of ANY size-can help make a difference in the life of an American Hero. Visit any military hospital and you will see countless examples of what words like heroism, honor, determination and patriotism truly mean. Many of our heroes are fighting painful battles-far from the front lines of war-in military hospitals around the country. They face months, sometimes years, of grueling surgeries and therapies before they are even able to go back home to their families. The American Legion's mission is to assure that no veteran falls through the cracks of our system and to help ensure their needs are met. Through our program Operation Comfort Warriors, we provide our wounded heroes with items they need to help make their recovery in the hospital more bearable. Sgt. Tom Shepard, injured by an IED blast in Afghanistan. Thanks to caring Americans like you, we have provided thousands of items to our wounded troops-items like loose-fitting sweatshirts and pants, which provide amputees and burn victims warmth and flexibility without adding pressure to burns and other wounds. We have even purchased special equipment needed by hospitals to help treat those who suffer from ailments like PTSD and severe head injuries. Our brave young heroes, wounded or not, will need our help when they return home. Imagine spending months-sometimes years-away from home, in a hostile environment. Most have seen the horrors of war firsthand and carry emotional and mental scars. Others come home with physical disabilities and need help finding special services or employment. Whether they are young or old, married or single, fathers, mothers, daughters or sons, they all have one thing in common. They have been forever changed by war-changed in an instant while serving our great nation-and they will never again be the same person who left their hometown for basic training months or even years ago. (over, please) The American Legion PO Box Indianapolis, IN 46236
3 Through our program Heroes to Hometowns, we help soldiers who are returning home with disabilities and challenges. We help them ease into their hometown and connect with the network of services they need in order to continue the healing process. With your help The American Legion will be there to lend a hand. We will connect injured soldiers with the services in their hometowns that best fit the special needs so suddenly thrust upon them. Whether the needs involve finding jobs, adapting homes and vehicles, child care, medical transport, or spiritual and financial support, The American Legion, in partnership with you, will be there to lend a hand. By following just three easy steps, we can ensure that our veterans are taken care of. It is the least we can do for those who bravely stepped up and answered their country s call. Step #1: Write a note of thanks on the card I have enclosed. I will see that your card is hand-delivered to a hospitalized veteran. Think of what your card will mean to a hospitalized veteran when you let them know the sacrifices they made for their country are not forgotten. It costs nothing but will make a huge difference to the veteran who receives it. Step #2: Detach one of the vouchers attached to the reply form. Whether we are helping wounded warriors, helping our troops as they return home, or helping veterans with their VA claims, your gift will provide meaningful support to veterans when they need it most. Step #3: Mail these items, along with the enclosed check and your very best gift of $15, $20 or more, in the enclosed reply envelope. Our veterans, our troops, and their families have sacrificed SO MUCH for our great country-for YOU AND ME-and have asked for nothing in return. They need OUR help. Please send a generous gift today! Yours for our wounded heroes, William A. Pease National Development Director The American Legion P.S. Please take a few minutes to complete the enclosed reply form and return it to me TODAY!
