4 Houston Methodist Neurological Institute Advances in Neurology Program Overview There have been significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of many neurological diseases. The professional journals and society meetings have attempted to cover scientific advances in peer-reviewed journals and at national and international meetings through consensus statements and publications. This program will emphasize the evidence-based strategy for the current treatment of the neurological disorders and cutting-edge research in novel therapeutics. There also have been requests during previous meetings from the neurological community to cover new methodologies and advancement in diagnosis and treatment of patients with Parkinson s disease, Alzheimer s disease, stroke, muscular dystrophies, narcolepsy, epilepsy, Tourette syndrome and others. Target Audience This conference is designed for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and residents/fellows in the neurological sciences. Educational Objectives Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: Apply new medical and surgical therapies for the treatment of neurological diseases Discuss the new and future therapies for stroke, essential tremor, normal pressure hydrocephalus, Parkinson s disease, and epilepsy Describe current strategy for stroke imaging Recognize the role for next generation of genetic sequencing in the diagnoses and treatment of neuromuscular diseases Discuss new technology for targeted drug delivery into central nervous system and its role in diagnosing and treating patients with pain and neurological disorders Accreditation and Credit Designation Statements Physicians Houston Methodist is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Houston Methodist designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses Houston Methodist is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Houston Methodist provides up to 14.0 contact hours for this activity. Participants must attend selected sessions in their entirety and complete the corresponding items on the evaluation tool. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech-Language Pathologists Continuing education units have been applied for with Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA), Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA), and Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA).
