In October 2014, the FDA approved a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, nintedanib, as well as an antifi brotic agent, pirfenidone, for the management of IPF. In this activity, leading clinicians will discuss molecular targets for therapy, diagnostic tests, biomarkers, and review treatment options for IPF. In addition, the clinicians will discuss interactive case presentations, enabling attendees to compare their management strategies. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to: Examine the molecular mechanisms underlying idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and the molecular targets of therapeutic agents. Assess laboratory tests that may diagnose idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension more accurately. Examine the use of biomarkers for the prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Evaluate treatment strategies based on current clinical evidence regarding the efficacy, safety, and adherence profiles of pharmacotherapies for the management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. TARGET AUDIENCE The intended audience for the activity is pulmonologists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
