2 Marine Mammal Foundation The Marine Mammal Foundation (MMF) is a not-for-profit ACNC charity registered organisation. MMF s Vision is to be the leading Australian marine mammal conservation and research organisation, advancing the natural marine environment through applied research, community engagement and next generation learning. Working with scientists, industry and the community we strive to advance applied marine mammal research conservation and protection. The Foundation's Mission Statement is: To conduct applied research, and work with Australian and International scientists and researchers to establish and advance the knowledge, conservation and protection of Australia s marine mammals. To apply the findings and learnings from the research to achieve informed and effective conservation outcomes. To raise community and stakeholder knowledge of marine conservation issues and empower change through greater awareness and action opportunities. To encourage and support the next generation, from early learners through to tertiary students, to ensure that what we do today, creates a better tomorrow. MMF has established relationships with DELWP, Parks Victoria, Museum Victoria, Zoos Victoria, Monash University, RMIT, Deakin University and University of Melbourne.

3 About Dr Kate Charlton-Robb Dr Kate Charlton-Robb is the Founding Director and Principal Researcher at MMF. Dr Kate has over 14 years experience researching marine mammals and was the primary researcher who formally described and named the new Australian species of dolphin, the Burrunan dolphin (Tursiops australis). Dr Kate is currently an Honorary Fellow at Deakin & Monash University and a Research Associate at Museum Victoria. Her efforts, both in the scientific and conservation arena, has seen the Burrunan listed as Threatened under Victoria s Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act. 7 About Project Burrunan With 36% of marine mammals world-wide listed as Threatened, it is more often we hear about the loss of species, rather than a discovery, especially one that has been living right under our noses! Project Burrunan is MMF s founding flagship research and conservation project. As one of only four new dolphin discoveries world-wide since the late 1800s, the Burrunan dolphin (Tursiops australis) was formally identified, described and named by MMF s Dr Kate in Already listed as Endangered, the Burrunan is endemic to southern and south-eastern Australian waters. This research and the formal naming of the species is just the tip of the iceberg. We want to continue our applied research so that we can protect the Burrunan for future generations. What we know is that there are only two resident populations in Victoria, Port Phillip Bay and the Gippsland Lakes. Both populations are incredibly small totalling approximately 150 dolphins! The Burrunan are also susceptible to numerous threats, including commercial and recreation fisheries, tourism, anthropogenic contaminants, shipping, gas and oil mining exploration and environmental change. Considering the bleak conservation status of the Burrunan, there is much that Australians should do and care about to protect this iconic dolphin. Greater scientific knowledge underpinning the correct management and conservation of this species is crucial. With no data there is no incentive for action and without action we can have no conservation. As an umbrella species, the conservation of the Burrunan dolphin also serves to protect Australia s marine environment and its unique biodiversity.

Graham has extensive multidiscipline marketing, sales, finance and general management skills and experience across diverse industries and business environments. Currently, Graham is providing consulting services and advice in the areas of leadership development pathway programs, leadership development coaching and organisation alignment, together with strategic thinking, planning and execution.
