7 Course Description Mayo Clinic Hematology/Oncology Reviews is a comprehensive postgraduate course designed to provide the busy practicing hematologist/oncologist with practical new developments. Didactic presentations will be case-based. Focused luncheon sessions encourage interaction with the faculty and attendees are encouraged to bring their most challenging cases for discussion. Attendees will leave with up-to-date, practical information which will have immediate clinical application. Course Learning Objectives List the changes over the last year in the management of breast cancer. Identify the appropriate candidates for neo-adjuvant and adjuvant therapy for esophageal and gastric cancers. Identify the most appropriate adjuvant treatment for patients with colorectal cancer. List the treatment options for the management of patients with liver metastasis. Select the most appropriate systemic therapy for patients with metastatic renal cell cancers. Select the best treatment for patients with bladder tumors. Identify the recent advances in the systemic treatment of patients with hormone refractory prostate cancer. List recent changes in the management of patients with AML. State when it is appropriate to treat patients with chronic myeloproliferative disorders and select the best treatment options. Recognize the different subsets of CLL and select their best treatment. Select the best treatment option for the different subsets of MDS. List new promising agents in the treatment of gynecological malignancies. Recognize the recent developments in the radiation treatment of uterine and cervical cancer. List the new agents approved for the treatment of ITP. List promising new cancer drugs currently undergoing clinical trial evaluation. Quote data supporting new treatments for lung cancer. Identify new promising treatments for thyroid cancer. Identify the treatments of choice for melanoma and sarcomas. Recognize the best therapeutic approach to head and neck tumor patients. Recognize when it is appropriate to refer patients for stem cell transplantation. Intended Audience This course is intended for practicing hematologists, medical oncologists, scientists, researchers, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and clinical research associates. College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Located on a barrier island just off the coast of Northeast Florida, this beautiful beachfront resort is renowned for its breathtaking views and its feeling of slight seclusion, yet it is just 10 minutes from the historic town of Fernandina Beach, a quaint seaside village of Victorian homes, boutique shops, antique stores and local eateries. Coastal view hotel rooms have been reserved for attendees and their guests at the group rate of $209 per night plus applicable taxes for single, double, triple or quad occupancy. In order to receive the special rate, reservations must be made before the room block is filled or before the expiration date of July 16, 2009, whichever comes first. The resort has extended the group rate three days before the meeting and three days after the meeting based on availability. Check in time is after 3:00 PM and check out time is before 12:00 PM.
