3 District Governor Bronwyn Stephens District Governor Bronwyn Stephens brought a very personal reflection on her Rotary experiences to our meeting this week. She also presented us with a very personal understanding of our members, club and the work we do. Bronwyn described how she believed she truly understood Rotary and how she became involved in water and education programmes in Cambodia through the Eyes Wide Open experience. She also spoke from experience of the difference that Rotary projects can make to people s lives. Her Rotary journey is around making good things happen. She then asked members to describe some of our own projects: The 1,000 Stories Project by President Lesley, Slides Into Sri Lanka from Peter Cribb and the Opportunity Shops from Allan Bruno. All projects making a difference in peoples lives. Emphasising our continued need to showcase Rotary, she showed how one person s idea had led to the drought appeal for affected farmers, and how a long term and ageing project like Rotary House for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute needs our help again. She mentioned that she, together with President Lesley, Del s family and friends and Maddi are participating in the Melbourne Marathon to raise money for BMDI House in Del s name. Speaking on the End Polio program, the recent successes and the current issues in Papua New Guinea, Bronwyn alerted us to the power of the Rotary Foundation combined with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and how we can turn $2 into $15 through the current campaign. She had already distributed the small jars of Smarties which when empty will hold $2-\00 in $2 coins. A magical $1500 for End Polio. In District Conference Chairman Mark s absence she spoke about the amazing line up of speakers for the multi-district conference; the lowest Conference cost ever of $175, and the optional dinner $110. Some sessions will be open to the public to showcase Rotary projects, and a separate Peace Forum will be held. What an inspiration for this Rotary Year! Edition 7 5 October

4 Rotary Exchange Student 2017 Maddi Collis Maddi returned to visit us for the first time since her return from Germany. Due to her new home and changed school location she has been unable to get to us until now. Maddi began by thanking us so very much for the sponsorship and support. Her exchange to Vienna was just amazing and she reflected don how much she had grown and learnt in her time way. Meeting new people staying with 3 different host families, attending school, learning German and becoming independent. What a learning curve! Maddi spoke of her travels, Eurotour, the thousands of photos she posted on FB and Instagram and the friends she made with whom she still has regular contact. Maddi is currently in exam revision for VCE at RMIT, and hopes to study a bachelor of Arts degree next year, majoring in politics, international relations and perhaps German. She is keen to travel and spoke of her interest in the Peace Scholar program offered by Rotary. She and her aunt Robyn recently visited Chris and Rosemary Drenen in Warragul Maddi has her L plates and takes the opportunity to clock some kilometres of experience when she can. Congratulations Maddi, how transformed yu are by your exchange year. Edition 7 5 October
