Don t arrive at lunch time. Today s Guest Speaker Dianne Semmens, General Manager Kangan Institute. Dianne spoke about her background as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student where she went to USA, as well as some inspirational youths that despite hardships such as homelessness were able to graduate from Kangan. We also had an update from each Committee chair: President Lisa spoke about Club Forum and how pleased she was with both the venue and outcomes. Lisa also mentioned that CEO of Racing Victoria would be speaking to cluster clubs on Wednesday 5 November. More information on both this and Club Forum to follow in coming weeks. Richard Lawrence spoke on the youth projects we are looking to support this year including RYPEN, NYSF, MUNA and youth exchange. He also spoke on Vocational with a couple of Vocational visits targeted including Essendon Football Club and a brewery (perhaps a good combination this week!!!)

Glenn Smith spoke from Community and their intent to conduct a fun run as a fund raiser. Lino Airo-Farulla spoke on Club Services and emphasised that it would be greatly appreciated if, from time to time, a few more members could spare the time to help out with meeting set up and/or pack away. Steve Chandler reported Fellowship are looking to conduct a rock n roll night in early October (details to follow). Well done this week s Sergeant Jenny Foster! Also well done, John Odgers. John attended the D9800 Future Leaders Seminar and filed the following report The Rotary District 9800 Future Leaders Seminar at Graduate House Melbourne University on September 1 was well attended and well run. It started sharp at 6.30 pm and for the next two hours we were ably guided through a range of leadership topics from the general to the Rotary specific. During the seminar we were asked to work collectively through specific exercises including creating a mind map on Rotary leadership. District Governor Murray Verso attended and contributed at the later stages. I thought the seminar was particularly useful for a new member of Rotary like myself both in terms of meeting other Rotarians from other clubs and learning about where to gain information about our at times complex and confusing Rotary world. ALSO, this is CONTACT Editors Grant and Margie s third last edition after which we will need someone else to take up the role. Let Lino or Lisa know if you can help out.

A number of social entrepreneurs are helping to run the evening. Regarding the Paul Harris Recognition it was started in 1947 when people were recognised for donating $1000 to Rotary Foundation. In 1947 that was a of a lot of money and certainly deserved some recognition. The amount has not changed in all the following years. If the amount had increased annually in accordance with inflation it would now take nearly $11000 to earn a recognition of donating funds to Foundation.
