2 TO: FROM: Dr. Bruce Law, Superintendent Frank Kesman, Interim Principal RE: Principal Report September 2013 El Diablo In August, members of the El Diablo yearbook staff attended Walsworth Yearbook Camp at Elmhurst College, including Samantha Strausser, Suraj Marwaha, Areeba Javed, Karolina Bryjak, Magdalena Gomez, Rachel Thompson and Christen Massouras. Congratulations to Mayank Mehta for winning First Place in Photoshop Design. Suraj Marwaha and Sophia Glomb also won awards for their participation at camp. Led by Editor-in-Chiefs Vicky Gomez and Sophia Glomb and adviser Ms. Timmons, the students participated in design, journalistic writing, and photography workshops. Congratulations on a successful yearbook camp. Hinsdale Central Ambassadors The Ambassadors have been busy since before the 1st day of school. On August 20, they welcomed new students with a dinner at The Patio, where new students were able to chat with our Ambassadors and have any last minute questions answered. Many of our Ambassadors met with their new students for ice cream, showed them around downtown Hinsdale and even made plans to visit the city. On Aug 22, they organized and led a new student country western themed picnic where new students and Ambassadors completed a scavenger hunt through the building and enjoyed some treats while becoming more familiar with the building and our incredible Ambassadors. On August 28, we had a Tech Training in the HC Library to teach students how to access their school , SharePoint, HAC, and introduce them to our library staff. Tomorrow, we will be taking 70 students, including Ambassadors and new students, to Irons Oaks where they will work on team-building exercises. At this time, we have matched about 70 students and our Ambassadors have done a phenomenal job at welcoming new students to the Red Devil Family. Devils Advocate The Devils Advocate adviser and staff have been nominated by the National Scholastic Press Association as a finalist for the association s Pacemaker Award. Sue Grady is the Advocate adviser, Evan Lee 13 was editor-in-chief, and Sarah Renehan 13 was managing editor. In their category of Newsmagazine, they are one of ten schools nominated nationwide. This nomination is made based on

3 Hinsdale Central High School Principal s Report September 2013 the breadth and judgment of coverage, content, quality of writing, editorial leadership on editorial page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout, design, photography, art and graphics.
