Latino Heritage Month October 3, 2018 was an incredible day of celebration and cultural consciousness. The Diversity and Inclusion Center and the Diversity Club of Easthampton High School Celebrated the Latino Heritage Month, Nuestra Historia- meaning our story, our history. The entire school community gathered in the gymnasium for the opening ceremony from 10am to 11am. Opening the ceremony was locally known poet Nathalie Vicencio who read a lyrical piece on the view of minorities in Western Massachusetts and some of the disadvantages Latino Immigrants have had when attempting to integrate into our communities. Freddy Fuentes a former superintendent from Boston Public Schools was the featured speaker of the event. Mr. Fuentes spoke about the positive contribution of Latino Immigrants in Western Massachusetts. The last event in the morning was a performance from Conjunto de Bomba de Aqui. This group performed a typical Afro-Caribbean dance. Brendalize Cepeda the main dancer of the group was able to invite and engage faculty and students to dance Bomba in the gymnasium. During the evening, the Diversity and Inclusion Center and the Diversity Club at EHS continued the Latino Heritage Month Celebration with an opening ceremony in which Easthampton mayor Nicole LaChapelle invited all members of the community to celebrate this important event.

Latino Heritage Month Easthampton city council Homar Gomez and school committee member Laurie Garcia spoke about the importance and positive contributions of Latino immigrants to our culture. During the evening event, a traditional Puerto Rican meal was served to all attendees of the event. Grupo Folklorico Tradiciones integrated for school members from the Amherst School district, performed several Latin-America dances in the EHS auditorium. Finally, the Diversity and Engagement, the Diversity Club in conjunction with Easthampton Healthy Families Youth Coalition viewed the film Resilience, a 2015 Sundance film festival selection How to build resilience in all our children.

EHS Science Class Collaborating with the Planning Commission and the DPW World Language Craft Fair Craft Fair to benefit the World Language Club 10/27 from 9-3:30 at EHS. Money raised helps fund the student trip to Guatemala and Belize and the Senior Travel Scholarship. Free to the public. This year, we have 85 local crafters and vendors, delicious food and live entertainment by local band "AcousticcA and EHS students.

Forensics Class at EHS Sgt. Timothy Satkowski and Sgt. Corey Robinson came to visit the Forensics classes at EHS to look at evidence. They reviewed the crime scenes set up at EHS with students. They talked to students about how to secure, enter, scan the scene and collect evidence, along with reviewing search warrants with the students. Students also looked at tire impressions, foot impressions and finger prints.

Guest Speaker In AP Statistics Class Dr. Tim Vercellotti, professor of political science at Western New England University and the director of the Western New England Polling Institute, was invited to talk to Ms. Checa's AP statistics students on Monday September 17th. The students, who have been learning about effective ways to sample and conduct surveys, got to hear about practical applications of these skills along with examples of good and bad ways to sample, write survey questions, and report survey results. The implications of this line of work on policy decisions at the local or national level was also discussed. Thank you to our School Counselor Intern Molly Alberti for creating this inspirational bulletin board.
