2 ToR: To provide services to the OIE, in particular within the region, in the designated specialty, in support of the implementation of OIE policies and, where required, seek for collaboration with OIE Reference Laboratories ToR: To identify and maintain existing expertise, in particular within its region 1. Activities as a centre of research, expertise, standardisation and dissemination of techniques within the remit of the mandate given by the OIE Training, capacity building Title of activity Scope Building diagnostic and surveillance capacity through training programs IIAD and collaborators have conducted five capacity development training programs in diagnostic detection and surveillance activities. Three additional 2015 training programs were postponed to Additionally, IIAD sponsored the 5th International Symposium on Managing Animal Mortalities, Products, and By-Products and Associated Health Risks which hosted participants from 11 different countries to discuss global capability challenges in animal mortality management. IIAD trained 200 participants during 2015 in U.S.-based, in country training programs, or through international symposiums. Follow-on discussions regarding additional training activities are underway with many of the countries that IIAD collaborated with during Additional requests for in-country trainings in epidemiology and veterinary laboratory management are under development for IIAD will begin to offer online curriculum for our international training programs in Vaccines Title of activity Scope Development of vaccines for FMD IIAD and collaborators have worked to evaluate a novel vaccine platforms for protection against foot-and-mouth disease virus. In the past year, IIAD has constructed and tested a panel of alphavirus replicon RND particle-based vaccines for FMDV in swine. These candidates are now being optimized for manufacturing conditions to ensure the can be prepared at a scaled and cost consistent with standard livestock vaccines on the market. Preliminary efficacy studies demonstrate protection in both cattle and swine as early as seven days post-vaccination. IIAD is working with U.S. Government and industry partners to complete additional validation (to meet OIE standards) and license the kit for sale on the commercial market. Industry partners have initiated regulatory filings with the USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) to approve the production platform for FMD vaccine license. This type of approval would grand a conditional product license based on an initial candidate vaccine s efficacy data. Subsequent vaccines targeting other FMDV strains (several others are in various stages of development and evaluation) would be rapidly advanced under the existing conditional license approval. 2 OIE Collaborating Centres Reports Activities, 2015
