2 History of PPR in Turkey The first detection of PPR was in 1992 The virus was isolated and identified phylogenetically as PPRV lineage IV in PPR has been included in the list of notifiable diseases since September 1997 Since the first official report of PPR in the Eastern Anatolia region, outbreak vaccinations were carried out with rinderpest vaccines until 1999 and, after that, following the termination of rinderpest vaccination, imported PPR vaccines were used for the same purpose In 2002, the Central Veterinary Research Institute initiated the production of PPR vaccines (Nigeria 75/1 strain) In the following years, the disease was included in the scope of disease control activities with the implementation of vaccination of sheep and goats in PPR outbreaks Second PPR Regional 2 nd road-map ECO PPR Roadmap meeting Workshop for Middle - Dushanbe, East 28 Feb. 3 2 nd ECO PPR Roadmap Workshop - Dushanbe, 28 Feb. 2 March 2017 History of PPR in Turkey Ear-Tagging and Vaccination of Sheep and Goats Project was initiated in 2010 (3 years Project) The vaccination coverage: 65 % in 2010 ( animals), 76 % of young animals in % of young animals in 2012 The vaccinated animals were registered, Television spots and leaflets were prepared, Training campaigns were run for public awareness PPR contingency plan was prepared.

4 Diagnosis Capacity of PPR Etlik Veterinary Control Central Research Institute is the national reference laboratory for PPR. Other regional veterinary institutes in the country are authorized and capable of PPR diagnosis. Veterinary Control Central Research Institute can use - Virus isolation and identification tests, - Antigen detection (ICE ELISA), - Real time RT-qPCR, - Antibody detection - Histopathological diagnosis (accredited test) can be performed. 10 PPR Control Strategy Restriction of animal movements, quarantine, ring vaccination, sampling, diagnosis All animals are vaccinated in case of outbreak All newborns and unvaccinated adults are vaccinated in routine vaccination campaign every year (except for Thrace region) Each Provincial Directorate defines own vaccination campaign period and Etlik VCCRI delivers vaccines to provinces in this context Unvaccinated animals are not allowed to move in the country and health certificate is not issued by official veterinarian All imported breeding animals are vaccinated Training campaigns are carried out for rising public awareness Second PPR Regional 2 nd road-map ECO PPR Roadmap meeting Workshop for Middle - Dushanbe, East 28 Feb.
