GCSE 2015 EXAM FEEDBACK
2bii. Explain how starting to play rugby at a club could increase Joe s self-esteem 1 mark response Joe will be taking part with people with similar interests and making new friends, making him feel good about himself. 3 mark response Joe will be taking part regularly with people of similar interests, therefore making new friends which will increase his confidence. In addition to this, Joe will be also be improving his practical capabilities. He may improve his ability to play rugby at a higher level, and may also improve his cardiovascular endurance. This will improve his confidence much further.
3b. Describe how an initiative to increase participation could improve the physical health of priority groups What are the key components of this question? Physical health by carrying out an initiative to promote participation will have positive effects on the physical health of priority groups such as elderly or obesity levels. By taking part in Active for Life programmes for example, elderly can help increase their bone density reducing the chance of osteoporosis. Additionally, it can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in obese groups, by reducing fat levels and blood pressure.
4ai. How does the gymnast use power? 1 mark response to jump higher in the air of the balance beam. 2 mark response how do we achieve this?
7 Explain why eating a large meal just before exercise might have a negative effect on performance When eating a large meal, blood is shunted away from the working muscles and towards the digestive system. When a performer starts exercising this demand changes from the digestive system to the working muscles. Because blood has been at the digestive system, the working muscles have not received enough oxygen to fuel performance, therefore the performer is likely to tire quicker.
9a Explain why it is important for Amy s heart rate and breathing rate to increase in preparation for a Heart rate is? Breathing rate is? tennis match. Why does heart rate increase? Why does breathing rate increase? How does this effect a tennis player?
LONG ANSWER FEEDBACK What should we be looking for in these paragraphs? 1 paragraph on shot, 1 on discus, 1 on hammer? 1 on skeletal effect, 1 on muscular effect, 1 on muscular or skeletal? Or a mixture of the two
Is this a model paragraph? what would you change? By taking part in a weight training programme, the performer will experience muscular hypertrophy. This will mean that the performer will be able to throw further in their event.
MODEL PARAGRAPH Weight training will also have a positive effect on the throwing events. By taking part in a high intensity weight training programme (80%+ of 1RM),the throwers are likely to experience tears in their muscle fibres. During recovery this will repair and grow back bigger and stronger. This is called muscular hypertrophy. This muscular hypertrophy will mean that power and strength will increase, which will have a significant effect on the ability of the throwers, causing them to throw further, increasing the chance of winning the competition.
