4 Fatigue - The Universal Truths Everyone has a mental and physical fatigue point The longer the working day, the greater the fatigue risk Physical and psychological conditions will have a significant impact on fatigue levels The less sleep obtained over time, the greater the fatigue Poor health and lifestyle choices will contribute to fatigue The greater the fatigue, the poorer the performance outcome and higher the risk of injury. 8 Conclusions Many offshore workers are overweight and/or unfit This poor physical condition often causes fatigue Poor nutrition, on/off the rig, exacerbates this effect Unhealthy onshore lifestyles contribute further to this ill health Fatigue can lead to depression, poor concentration, and low morale Fatigue is often a contributor to operational and safety failures
9 The Way Forward Could we create an environment where healthy eating and exercise was the norm? Could we provide a way for personnel (men!) to get a physical check? Could this be a nontraditional recognition award with a lasting impact!

24 Feedback the lifestyle of rig workers offshore can lead to health problems such as obesity, cardio vascular disease and fatigue. Balancing lifestyle and work for improved health and well being can be achieved through a simple program of diet monitoring and exercise. A number of rig personnel onboard the SONGA VENUS and also the shore based team, including myself, engaged in the Lifestyle Change Program with significant success in achieving results they never thought were possible.
