Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Academic Structure Ayurvedic Dctrs (fr instance, BAMS/MD) and practitiners (fr instance, specialized therapists) are heard f but presently renwned universities in India are als imparting their knwledge via full time degree, pst graduate and dctral prgrams, fr instance B. Pharmacy (Ayurveda), M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) and PhD. in Ayurvedic pharmacy. Sme f the renwned universities include; Gujrat Ayurveda University (Jamnagar), Banaras Hindu University, Bengal Institute f Pharmaceutical Sciences (affiliated t Jadavpur University), Lvely Prfessinal University (Punjab), Manav Bharati University (Himachal Pradesh) etc. The curses are structured under the University Grants Cmmissin Act. The degree and pst graduate prgrams cnstitute extensive detailed pharmaceutical subjects similar t thse taught in allpathic pharmaceutical prgrams. In additin t these Ayurvedic technlgies are studied, executed and implemented in details t ensure the prfessinals are equipped enugh t deliver standardized Ayurvedic medicine. The primrdial bjective is t validate Ayurvedic medicines using latest scientific technlgies and t restre traditinal knwledge by reviving classical medical literature via teaching and specializing n subjects like Rasashastra and Bhaisajya Kalpana (Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics), Dravyaguna Vijnana (Ayurvedic Pharmaclgy), Namrpa Vijnana (Ayurvedic Pharmacgnsy) etc. Despite these, extensive detailed study n Sarir Kriya and Rachana (Anatmy and Physilgy), Philsphical and Histrical aspects f Ayurveda are als taught (e.g. Darshan, Histry f Ayurvedic Pharmacy). The fur year degree and tw year pst graduate degree cnstitutes eight and fur semesters respectively and cvers all the recent research, Instrumental analysis, Statistics, Numerical management and Cmputer prgramming, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaclgy, Clinical Pharmacy, Quality Cntrl and Assurance, Phytchemistry (The chemistry f plants), all the regulatry guidelines and many mre needed t frmulate, develp and market a medicine are als taught in details including a final year

Over the years impressive research wrk and scientific cmmunicatins has been published by yung Ayurvedic pharmaceutical schlars frm the respective Universities. PRESENT STATUS Status in the Gvernment: In India the respnsibility f develping traditinal system f medicine and t ensure its grwth is attributed t the central gvernment bdy AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yga, Unani, Siddha and Hmepathy). It is extremely painful t knw that AYUSH des nt have a gverning bdy f certified Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Scientists and despite numerus attempts by the students they d nt prvide registratin t B. Pharmacy/M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) students unlike the allpathic system f pharmacy. As a matter f fact these pharmaceutical prfessinals are finding it hard t secure a place in the gvernment and since the ruling authrities are dctrs majrly, this niche but intellectual grup f students are being vershadwed. This is leading t lack f standardizatin aspects in Ayurvedic medicine and the field is being thrughly neglected in India while western cuntries are utilizing it t the utmst effect while the riginal wisdm, surce, traditin lies in India. Survey statistics elucidates that there is n r maybe a few specialized technicians f Ayurvedic Pharmacy wh are wrking in the central gvernment fr Ayurvedic research and drug develpment. Recent reprts f JAMA clearly implies that there is lack f quality and cnsistency in the validatin f Ayurvedic medicine and sner the gvernment shuld understand that the respnsibility f the Dctrs and Pharmacists are different as in case f allpathic system f medicine. Status in the Manufacturing/R and D Industries: An insight t sme f the leading Ayurvedic/Herbal medicine rganizatins in India ruling glbally wuld reveal that despite these curses being cnducted fr mre than 10 years in India nw negligible number f Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Scientists is wrking in the R and D sectr. Instead, Dctrs and MD. are trusted with the respnsibility f delivering safe Ayurvedic medicine. Cmmn intellectual lgic depicts that frm time immemrial dctrs were trusted with the skill set f diagnsis and Pharmacists slely deal with medicines. Since changes are in mind first then in actins; due t niche field strength f Ayurvedic Pharmacists, we are nt trusted with the knwledge given t us wing t sme precnceived but incrrect ideas. The academic curse structures are full time technical degrees and it rightfully incrprates standard fees structure which appears t be a substantial amunt while lking at the larger picture f twelve semesters i.e. if a student cntinues his educatin up t the Masters level. The present scenari in the industry is these meritrius, niche and creative students/schlars passinate t take Ayurvedic medicines frward by using industrial guidance are ffered a minimal salary and entry level psitins even fr the qualified bunch, that ges dwn t an extent that makes living a serius cncern fr the individual and they tend t change their fields, deviate frm their strengths that is n dubt rare and unique. In case if they d, the field and ptins are much narrwer fr the M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) students. Very few f the passed ut students are wrking in the R and D sectrs, majrity f them tend t deviate frm their field and chse marketing as an ptin due t mre pay structure. This implies that serius talent is being wasted. M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) students are even wrking as pharmacists in rganizatins. Eligibility in the Healthcare sectr appears t be a serius cncern fr these peple until initiative steps are taken by the gvernment. THE SOLUTIONS Registratin f B. Manufacturing industries shuld mandatrily emply at least tw B. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) and ne M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) schlar with separate pay structure fr bth s that the dignity f the knwledge is restred. AYUSH shuld allcate separate funds fr Ayurvedic Pharmacy rather than Ayurveda and the sle respnsibility f Ayurvedic medicine must be left t the Ayurvedic pharmacists and schlars. Universities shuld accept these students in higher studies even if sme f them wants t pursue a PhD. in Pharmaceutical Sciences as validatin f Ayurvedic medicinal research is a necessity as this branch f science restres brilliant lead cmpunds. B. Pharmacy/M. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) are nt allwed t right examinatins even in Ayurvedic research clleges. AUTHORS MESSAGE Ayurveda is knwn as the science f life. Classical medical literature clearly specifies technlgies t prepare Ayurvedic medicines. In an era f technlgical advances there is an utmst need t scientifically integrate, standardize Ayurvedic medicine and even develp a crss functinal synergy amngst varius R and D functins. The knwledge f Medical writing, Pharmacvigilance, Infrmatin technlgy t inculcate the diversified database f Ayurvedc/Herbal medicine is needed and these activities can be best perfrmed by the students wh are trained specifically fr this purpse. Being Master f Pharmacy in Ayurveda, I understand the respnsibility that we have but precnceived traditins must be changed and changes must be welcmed. Lastly, I will like t raise a few questins that; are dctrs the rightful persn fr medicine? Wh shuld be trusted with the respnsibility f reducing drug interactins in Ayurvedic medicine? Why shuld Ayurvedic dctrs be allwed t teach Ayurvedic pharmacy? Hw many f the B.Pharma/M.Pharma Ayurveda students are devted twards the develpment f Ayurvedic medicine in the Industry? Why nt standardize Ayurvedic database using 1468
