Questins d nt differentiate primary surces frm infrequent surces. In deciding what existing items t chse r whether and hw t rewrk items t assess surce f marijuana, it cmes dwn t what exactly d we want t knw? Hw will the infrmatin serve us? Fr example, is it imprtant t differentiate between friend and family surces? Will that knwledge affect interventin develpment? Cnsidering that I gt it at a party culd mean 1) smene was passing arund a jint and they partk f it r 2) they had prearranged t prcure a quantity f marijuana at the party t take hme, is such a difference imprtant fr ur purpses? Different ways f cnstructing items and answer chices will have different benefits and drawbacks, s it becmes a matter f pririties and tradeffs. Hw imprtant is it t cmpare frm year t year? NSDUH uses a strategy f phasing new questins in, s that ld questins can be directly cmpared with new questins within years befre drpping ld questins. If actual surce amng users is f interest, the meframe shuld be made clear in the ques n. Are we interested in capturing all f the surces they have used, the usual surce, r the mst recent surce? In any case, answer chices shuld be mutually exclusive s that respndents are nt cnfused abut which answer fits the best.
