2 1,000 OVERALL SOCIETY HIGHLIGHTS 1.6 million 35,900 Our members, colleagues and customers donated over 70,000 products to foodbanks in 2016 (compared to 24,000 in 2015), providing meals to over 1,000 families in need. distributed into the community in 2016 (compared to 1.2 million in 2015) Our colleagues delivered over 35,900 volunteer hours last year to support their local communities (compared to 26,000 in 2015) We have been re-accredited with the Fair Tax Mark, awarded to organisations that display a high degree of transparency in their tax affairs 234,000 volunteering hours have been provided by our colleagues in the community over the last 10 years

4 SHREWSBURY HIGHLIGHTS The following sites are located within the Shrewsbury Regional Community: 5 Food sites, 3 Post Offices 249 colleagues work within the Regional Community. Your Regional Community enables members and colleagues to work together to support the local community and demonstrate our co-operative difference, including supporting local charities that you are passionate about and volunteering together to give others a helping hand in your neighbourhood. The Regional Community Steering Groups are made up of local colleagues, Board members, Executive members and active local members overseen by Regional Ambassadors. Key Highlights from Shrewsbury Regional Community Our colleagues across Shrewsbury have completed 1,200 volunteer hours in the local community to date this year Colleagues and members have donated over 11,000 items to the Shrewsbury Food Bank, providing meals to over 220 families in need Over 700 young people have been engaged in the local area working with a range of educational establishments including; Bicton C of E School and The Priory Secondary School to support the development of young people Members and colleagues from the local steering groups have chosen to support the following local community priorities: working with Shropshire Young Carers and Shrewsbury Street pastors to support vulnerable young people We have distributed 13,000 through community grants & carrier bag monies to 22 local good causes Raised 7,000 for local charity partner Severn Hospice

5 SHREWSBURY CASE STUDIES 84 organisations receive almost 30,000 in grants from huge fundraiser The Society s annual Churchstoke Fun Day, held at the Churchstoke Harry Tuffins store run by Midcounties, saw more than 5,000 local residents come together to enjoy helicopter rides, a fun fair and a dog show. All of the activity that took place on the day raised a huge 30,000 for local charities. The grants were awarded to organisations that had successfully applied to our Community Fund. Amongst the groups that benefited, Shropshire-based charity Bloodwise will use the funds to continue its research into finding treatments for different types of blood cancer. The 1st Churchstoke Brownies will be using the money to contribute towards the costs of taking the children on an adventure weekend and Churchstoke Over 60 s Club will purchase a new Dial-a-Ride If you are interested transport service to help its members get out and about. in becoming an active member for your local Regional Vince Sage, Store Manager of the Harry Tuffins store in Community Group, please call Churchstoke, said: The Churchstoke Fun Day has become very popular and we d like to thank our customers, or colleagues and members for their on-going support in member.communications helping us to raise thousands of pounds for good each year. to find out more.

6 SHREWSBURY CASE STUDIES Midcounties opens young people s eyes to the environment 54 pupils attended Midcounties annual Green Pioneers Conference in Droitwich in September, including children from Bishop s Castle Community College. Students from four schools came together to create a lasting environmental legacy for future generations. Pupils aged between 13 and 14 who had previously taken part in Midcounties Green Pioneers Alan Doust, programme, delivered in partnership with head teacher from The Outward Bound Trust, were asked Bishop s Castle Community to feedback on how the programme College, said: has influenced their attitude to the We re proud of our participation in The environment. 7 HIGHLIGHTS Across our 20 regional communities we have delivered the following examples in 2016 to help build strong local communities. Delivered 21,000 volunteer hours across our Regional Community areas (increased from 10,800 in 2015) 10,000 members involved in selecting local opportunities across all 20 Regional Community areas Raised 133,000 for our local charity partners 230K distributed to over 380 local community groups and good causes through grants and carrier bag monies across our Regional Communities Members, colleagues and customers donated over 70,000 products to foodbanks (up from 24,000 in 2015), providing enough meals for over 1,000 families in need Engaged with over 9,000 young people (increased from 1,000 in 2015) through a range of initiatives, working with 50 schools across our trading area Secured over 400 press releases with a potential audience reach of 50 million people Visit our webpage to learn more about our community programme (including our Keeping It Local programme for our trading sites that are located outside of our Regional Community areas) and how to get involved.
