1 Staff Report and Metrics March 2013 ADMINISTRATION & PERSONNEL 4 weekly staff meetings, 1 monthly staff meeting FISCAL MANAGEMENT Processed accounts payable and receivable, prepared invoices and checks for signage. (Quanetta) Reviewed invoices and signed checks. (Keith, Quanetta) PRESENTATIONS & KEY MEETINGS Keith spent NPGAW on a tour of five states. In six days Keith travelled 3,313 miles and gave 12 presentations in five states, despite being stopped for a day by storms. o 3/3 Michigan Association on Problem Gambling annual meeting - presented o Fifth Annual Problem Gambling Symposium in Detroit - keynote and another plenary address o 3/4 Roundtable in Illinois: moderated for an audience of over 100 counselors and recovering addicts gathered to hear about responsible gaming initiatives and problem gambling issues. Joined by NCPG President Don Feeney, Illinois Division of Alcohol & Substance Abuse medical director (and former NCPG Board Member) Dr. Seth Eisenberg, Illinois Lottery Superintendent Michael Jones, Outreach Foundation s Bob Olsen and Scott Damini plus Avis LaVelle and Tammi Barlow from the Northstar Lottery Group. o o o 3/6 Kansas City, met with KCPG President Joyce Markham 3/7 Keith testified before the Kansas Senate Ways & Means committee, spoke at a press conference and then a town hall meeting. He spoke strongly against the Governor s budget proposal to eliminate all public funds for problem gambling. Subsequently the Governor pledged to restore funding to previous levels (notwithstanding the fact that 90% of the Problem Gambling and Addictions Fund still goes to issues other than gambling). The House moved the next week to add back an additional $300,000. Oklahoma City: Oklahoma Council s 7 th annual conference, gave opening and closing presentations. At the conference OACPG Executive Director (and NCPG Board member) Wiley Harwell announced that the Oklahoma House that day had overwhelmingly approved a bill to triple the state s problem gambling funding to $1.5 million. 3/14 Lunch and Learn presentation to staff on problem gambling basics (Keith & Jocelyn) 3/16 - Presented at the D.C. Downloaded monthly phone bill, exported data to prepare individual statements. (Jocelyn and Quanetta) Updated contact information for call centers Developed and sent out bid for Helpline contract. Developed scoring sheet and criteria for reviewers as well as invited reviewers (Keith & Jocelyn) Legislative Advocacy (Keith) Monitored activity on online poker bill; no movement expected until Membership and Development (Barbara, Melissa) Sent invitation to (54) members to renew, emphasizing membership benefits and conference discount for Sent final renewal notices to members that did not renew over the last 6 months. Processed (10) new member applications, prepared certificates, and ed/mailed new member packets. (Melissa) Partnered with Center for Problem Gambling at University of Maryland to place NCPG Membership brochures in packets for approximately 250 counselors at one of their trainings Worked with Megan to create a Membership-focused display ad for placement in the program book of the TUERK Conference in Maryland, which attracts about 1,000 addictions counselors; hosted by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Maryland (NCADD-Maryland). Updated Membership Brochure and had 2,000 printed. (Barbara, Melissa) Refined ideas and structure for a new cause-affinity event during La Fleur s Lottery Symposium as a development & cultivation initiative. The event is called Strikes for Responsible Gaming. Attendees will be invited for 2 hours of networking, appetizers and bowling at Lucky Strikes Lanes in downtown DC, a few blocks from the symposium. Tickets are priced at $60 and low-level sponsorships are also being sought we have already had interest from two organizations. The event will break even with 22 ticket buyers. (Keith, Barbara) o Structured Sponsorship levels and benefits, which will include a 6-month honorary NCPG Individual Membership. (Keith, Barbara)

3 o Set up i4a online registration page for Strikes for Responsible Gaming. (Melissa) o Coordinated with La Fleur s; provided copy for them to send to attendees (Keith, Barbara) o Made selective asks to lottery executives and vendors for sponsorship by and followed up with print letters and materials; added a small flyer for the National Conference in the mailed packet. (Keith, Barbara) New Corporate member: Global Cash Access (Platinum for-profit), returning after a lapse of two years and many attempts on our part to renew the partnership.
