1 Women's Club News February 10, 2017 Dear Friends, Happy Valentine s Day! We will be celebrating all week (rather than just on Tuesday, as previously scheduled). Each day at 1 p.m. we will be celebrating with some valentine treats for you at the club. This is Volunteer Appreciation Week so don t forget to say Thank You to the many people who keep our club running smoothly every day. A special thank you to the Key Monitors who make sure the club is open and set up correctly. Also a big thank you to those of you who take time to greet new members and guests and make them feel welcome to the club. On Sunday, Feb. 19th, we will be participating in the Relay for Life at Beardsley Park. Come and join us! All of us have known someone with cancer. It s time that we do something about it! You don t have to walk, just enjoy the afternoon at the park with your friends, check out all the raffles, and listen to the entertainment. Survivors, please be there at 2:30 p.m. to pick up your shirt. We ve had quite a few members who have been sick recently. Please be considerate and don t come to the club until you are well. We believe in sharing but not germs! Remember that the club is closed on Thursday this week as the TORCH group will be using the clubhouse for some of their classes. This happens twice a year, once in February and once in October. We will be collecting personal items (shampoo, lotions, deodorant, hair brushes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.) regular and sample sizes for Eve s Place for abused and homeless women. There will be a box in the corner by the sofas for these items until the end of the month. 2 Women's Club News February 10, 2017 Day Trip to Mystery Castle On Friday, February 24th, we will tour the Mystery Castle near downtown Phoenix, visit the Educational Center at South Mountain Park, drive to Dobbins Point in South Mountain Park and enjoy a fantastic view of our Valley of the Sun, and finish with a late lunch at The Farm at South Mountain. The Mystery Castle has been featured on many national TV shows and magazines. It is listed on the Arizona Historic Register. Tours are given through May 2017, 11 am to 3:30 pm. Admission is $10 for adults. To read more about this unusual home visit The Farm at South Mountain features, soup, sandwiches, and salads. Prices range from $10 to $12. Food is ordered at the counter and eating is outside. Their menu is posted on their website: Drivers: We need at least 3 volunteer Drivers for our carpool for the day outings to be successful. Please put a D for driver and the number your car can accommodate beside your name. Mileage is approximately 36 miles to the Mystery Castle. So our total mileage with be near 80 to 85 miles including our other stops. So we ask that you donate gas money to the drivers. We will depart at 9:30 am from the Women s Club. 4 New Procedure for Paying Dues Put your check with your monitor card (and a note if you have any information changes) in the beige locked box on the front counter. We will verify your information; process changes; order a replacement badge if needed; etc. Then we put your new monitor card and sticker for your badge in an envelope. It will be on the counter for you to pick up. Renewals for 2017 are due by February 28th, 2017, or a $5.00 late fee will be added.
