Volume 1, Issue 3 Winter Forty-years ago on May 1, 1973, WOAR opened the first above ground rape crisis center in the country working collaboratively with the medical and criminal justice systems. Throughout these past years, WOAR has celebrated many accomplishments and has been a bridge to hope, help and healing. WOAR's mission is to eliminate all forms of sexual violence through specialized treatment services, comprehensive prevention education programs, and advocacy for the rights of victims of sexual assault. In celebration of our 40th Anniversary, we have planned a number of events during April - Sexual Violence Awareness Month. We hope to see you at one or all of these events. Stamatakis In celebration of Women Organized Against Rape s 40th Anniversary, WOAR is hosting the "Bridge of Courage Award Reception on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 5:30 8:30 pm at the Cescaphe Ballroom in Philadelphia. 2 Company. His dedication to the common goal of ending sexual violence and to the aid in the treatment of victims of sexual violence are a testament to his spirit of caring. Through his commitment toward the development of the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center, victims of sexual violence are offered a bridge to hope, help and healing. The evening promises to be filled with food, fun and excitement. For more information call Grace at , ext. 172 or Grace@woar.org. 8th Annual "Take It All Back" Community Walk and Speak Out Saturday, April 20, 2013 Come Join us for our 1.5 mile walk to show your commitment to supporting survivors and ending Sexual Violence. The 8th Annual Take It All Back will meet on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at LOVE PARK/JFK PLAZA FOUNTAIN between 15th and 16th Streets at 11:30 AM and the Walk will start at12:00 PM. We will be walking for 1.5 miles from 16th and JFK to the Independence Ballroom at 6th and Market Sts. While we walk we will communicate our message to end the silence around sexual violence. The walk will end at 6th and Market and will be followed by the Speak Out in the Independence Ballroom of the Independence Visitors Center at 6th & Market, between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. You are invited to join members of your community to speak out against sexual violence. Men, women and especially children are welcome! There will be survivor and professional speakers, information on sexual violence, snacks, raffle items and activities for adults and children. The Walk is free but walkers are encouraged to ask family, friends and co-workers to take a stand and support you as you walk to end sexual violence.
