3 The Artists Collaborative Theatre from Pike County, Kentucky made a visit to Johnson County on January 28th to perform their version of the classic Alice in Wonderland to several groups of local elementary and high school students. Students also donated money to go toward a decorated pillowcase service project for children who are hospitalized at Paul B. Hall. This project will be completed by Johnson Central Family and Consumer Sciences students. Children who donated are pictured below. Thanks to all who helped make this happen! 5 The Route 23 Cultural Heritage Network CHN is an organization over 15 years old that was established by the Kentucky Arts Council, a team of volunteers from across the region, and the Johnson County FCS Extension program. CHN is dedicated to the preservation of the history, creativity, and culture of the region and has become an important anchor for many programs in Johnson County. Some of these programs include The Story Patch (a play series based on local stories), the Stafford House (the oldest house in Paintsville), the Oil Springs Cultural Arts and Recreation Center (OSCAR), the Country Music Highway quilt block mural trail, the Chatterawha project, and more. These programs will now be housed solely under CHN instead of under Johnson County Extension FCS. When the Johnson County Visions project was launched years ago, Extension lead the way for over 500 participants to voice what they valued most one of the top 10 things was the preservation of the history and culture of the region. We have succeeded in this mission, establishing a system (CHN) that can now carry this mission on, for years to come. What a great accomplishment! Perhaps 100 years from now it can be said that the cultural things of our region still survive due to all of our hard work over the past 15 +years. Thanks to everyone who helped along the journey, but it isn t over yet! Please consider joining the Route 23 Cultural Heritage Network now and becoming involved in the important, fun work that we do for our county and our entire region. Brenda Cockerham 5.

8 Kentucky 4-H Clover Buds are on the lookout for new buds! Just like regular 4-H, but for younger kids in K-3, or ages 5-8 as of Jan. 1st. The everbearing variety available will be Tribute at $20 per 100 plants, $10 per 50, and $5 per 25. All plants are expected to arrive by the last week in March.
