1 From The President s Desk: MONTHLY NEWS January 2011 Volume 11, Issue 1 January 2011 and by the time you get the newsletter 2010 will have come and gone. Let them know when you see them at the club. On one of the last weekdays of December I was at the club and it was in the 20's and snow piled high. Our tables and parking lot was full. 6 fields were in use and the line at the counter was almost constant. Dean & Ken were busy until closing. It doesn't get much better than that. Thank You DGSC Senior and Shooting Members for your support. Without are members we are little more than some buildings, a nice yard and several hundred acres of farm land. Shotgun Sports Director is a new position for me, and I look forward to being even more involved with our club. Let me start off by mentioning some of the events that we have set up so far for the year. Due to the unpredictable weather conditions in Jan and Feb, we haven't proposed much in those months. Sunday March 13th is the date for our AIM Youth Team Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner Fundraiser. Saturday March 19th we will be holding an "ATA Targets Only" shoot. We will include a lunch with the shoot. Let me know what you'd like to set up for the shoot. March 26th, Saturday, we will be holding the first Swap Meet of 2011 at DGSC. Tables will be $15.00 each, and this will be held in the pole barn. The set up will be just as it was last year. Please contact me for payment. The Eric Weikum Fundraiser & Shoot will be Saturday April 30th. May 7th we will be holding another well structured "ATA Targets Only" shoot. To wrap up our list of events, Leo Harrison will be conducting a clinic at DGSC June 1 st (Wed), 2 nd (Thurs), and 3 rd (Fri). Plus, I am also working on a date for a NSCA Certified Instructor, (Master Class Shooter) to hold a clinic at the club. This is just a short list of some of the things going on so please make plans accordingly if you d like to attend. Watch the club calendar for ATA, NSCA and other dates coming up. This year is going to be filled with a lot of shooting opportunities and fun events. Which brings me to my next topic, "You and Your Club". First off, "You", because I need your help. I'm looking to organize an ATA Committee, a group of people that can help out at our ATA shoots. I need some people to help out with the Targets Only and Big 50 that we will run during the week as we did last year. I know not everyone can help, but I have talked to a few people and I will be talking to A LOT more. Your response to my asking, has been favorable, thank you. I'm looking for a few hours of help, and I want the people who help to be able to shoot. This is what we're here for! Secondly, is the "Your Club" part. What events would you like to see out at DGSC this year? Do you want a club shoot every month, a trap league, a skeet league? I'll run one. I'd like to see more people out here on Friday nights. The new lights on two fields are great. The Sporting Clays course is going to be open the same as trap and skeet. Who wants to start a Sporting Clays League? I haven't even scratched the surface of what I'd like to see out here at our club. There's going to be a lot of shooting, and we're going to have a fun and prosperous year. I look forward to your suggestions, questions, and willingness to help me out. Stop me at the club, call me, or me. I find it a privilege to represent DGSC and its members. Thank You Dean Merkle Hunting/Fishing News: I would like to thank everyone for voting for me for Hunting and Fishing Chairman. I have talked to Chuck and he's told me that we have some birds at the breeder that we still need to use. Once I get a handle on what's going on I'm going to work out some dates for some possible releases. Also, I would like to work out a date for a two man shoot-to retrieve contest. Once again I would like to thank the members for electing me and I hope that everyone is having a Happy and Healthy New Year. GOOD LUCK Denny Marano
3 PAGE 3 DGSC NEWS NETWORK VOLUME 11, ISSUE 1 Youth/Community Relations: I m looking forward to serving DGSC this year under Youth and Community. There are many Boy Scout Troops and other organizations within our community looking to DGSC for Gun Safety Review and Clay Target Shooting Events. I look forward to reviewing with Dean M everything he started putting together towards the end of last year and helping him setup events. Our youth team grows and grows with youths ranging from those that want to be very competitive in the sport to those that are just curious and want to learn about shooting and gun safety. Weekend practices will become more regular and our the Annual Team Meeting and Registration is fast approaching we are looking at dates in mid Feb so please let us know if you know a Youth that might be interested. Dan Bellus Sporting Clays/5 Stand News: We have entered our 2nd year of NSCA Registered Shooting - this year DGSC will host 3 weekend NSCA registered shoots. So far we are also running 3 Sporting Clay/5 Stand Fun Shoots. Cook outs, money prizes, raffles will all be returning to our Fun Shoots. As always volunteers are always needed and welcomed so please contact Mark or Deb if your interested in getting involved with the NSCA Shoots/Fun Shoots this year. We open the season with a Fun Shoot on Sun May 22nd, but of course as Dean mentioned the Sporting Clay Course will be opened for normal shooting just as Trap and Skeet are so come out and get some practice in. Building & Grounds Safety: During these cold, snowy, icy winter conditions please be careful when outside going to your cars, when on the fields or inside the building.
