Month: October As you would now be aware the warm weather is here and we are now wondering why did we complain about the cold. So, if you need help with arranging for repairs or maintenance with your cooling requirements, please give our office a call and we would be happy to assist where we can. Carers Week commences on the 14th October and ends on the 20th October. We will be holding special events during that week. This year s Carers Week theme is Why we Care. You can read about carers stories and share your own experience by visiting the Carers Week 2018 website: Carers Week is about you, the Carer. It recognising the important role you play; and the support and love you provide to the person(s) you are caring for. This is a huge commitment, so well done and thank you to all carers for your time and commitment. If you are a footy fan, whether it be Aussie rules, Rugby league, soccer or any other sport, I hope your team did you proud and made the season worthwhile for you. We are also very excited to inform you that Carers SA is part of the Home and Land package Lottery. To all the fathers and grandfathers, I hope you had a great Father s Day and was able to spend some quality time with your children or grandchildren. October is that time of year were it is going to be a very busy month. Monday, 1st October is Labour Day public holiday so the office will not be open, it is also the International Day of Older Persons. As well as our usual support groups, Carers Week is from 14-20th October, and the Port Augusta Positive Ageing Expo is happening again on the 18th October. Daylight saving starts on Sunday, 7th October, so don t forgot to turn your clocks forward before you go to bed on Saturday. Daylight saving starts from 2am Sunday morning. Groups and events have been arranged for all the region and if you can make it I would love to see you there. You are welcome to attend any groups that have been placed in the newsletter. Please remember if you wish to attend any of the events or carer groups, to register your interest with the office for catering purposes. Resolution 45/106, passed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th 1990, declared October 1st to be the International Day of Older Persons. Call us on or us on Lemon cheesecake slice With no cooking required, this refrigerator slice is quick and easy to make. With its tangy lemon cheesecake filling, this slice is sure to be a family favourite. ingredients 2 packets Lattice biscuits 250g unsalted butter 250g caster sugar 250g Philadelphia cream cheese 1 (10g) sachet gelatin 1/4-1/3 cup lemon juice (fresh or bottled is fine) method 1. Cream the butter, sugar and cream cheese. 2. Heat the lemon juice (microwave is fine) and stir in gelatin. Add to creamed mix and mix until completely smooth. 3. Line a rectangle baking tray with grease-proof paper, leaving some flapping out the sides of the tray so you can lift the slice out once set. 4. Lay Lattice biscuits in bottom of tray (shiny side down), cutting biscuits to fit right to the sides. 5. Spread the creamed mix evenly over the layer of biscuits. Add another layer of biscuits to finish (shiny side up this time) Refrigerate until set. Cut into slices. 6 Carers Information Notice Integrated Carer Services Expressions of Interest for Carer Focus Groups As you are aware the Government are introducing the new Integrated Carer Support Service (ICSS) in September At Carers SA we see this as an opportunity to consult with carers about potential new carer services under ICSS. We want you to talk to carers to hear your opinions. Over the next couple of months we are seeking to contact interested carers to attend focus groups. These focus groups will be held in metropolitan and regional areas. If you are interested to take part in one of these important events and understand the future of carer s services within ICSS please register your interest by contacting: Carers SA Northern Country on Registrations of interest close on 12 th October 2018.
